Can we at least get obama the hell out and then deal with Romney? Romney is not going to pull the same crap as obama with everyone holding his feet to the fire. Get real.

Electing Romney doesn’t indicate that Republicans choose to survive politically or will survive. A Romney loss might just light a fire on the right that will finally raise up a Conservative party that becomes to the Republicans what the Republicans were to the Whigs. As with the Whigs there is no longer any reason for there to be a Republican Party. Voting for its leftist candidates is feeding the Democrat Party socialism-for-America agenda and short circuiting any Conservative presence in Congress.

Ah! *Finally* you reveal your desire! You have no other candidate who can compete with either Obama or Romney, so you advocate the destruction of a party so that your dream-party may arise from the ashes like a Phoenix.

Now, I will agree that the GOP sux; but for now and the forseeable future, it's not going anywhere. It seems you are confused by the common sentiment of "The GOP stinks" on FR (or on any number of conservative portals) that the time is right for a party that can compete with and/or replace the GOP. But you lack the presence of mind to observe the obvious -- that as the political right stands *RIGHT NOW*, it is composed of conservatives, libertarians, moderates, centrists, etc, etc, etc... Conservatives are still outnumbered. How do you think Romney (against a slate of more-conservative candidates to choose from) got MORE VOTERS TO VOTE FOR HIM?

Once you work out the problem we have with getting folks to select the more-conservative candidate in the voting booth, then you will likely come to the logical conclusion that your hope for a more conservative party to replace the GOP is doomed to fail due to the current composition of the electorate on the political right. Further, presuming the GOP *did* somehow implode (for the sake of argument) we would probably end up with a replacement party that could QUITE FEASIBLY be *farther* from your conservative ideal than the GOP currently is. The dice you seem eager to roll are loaded with *FAIL*.

Although I share your frustration with the GOP, it's not going anywhere (I agree that is unfortunate). We either continue to fight with what we have and keep the pressure on as much as we can. Or we commit political suicide and give Obama (the great ignorer of congress and the courts) another 4 years to commit the country on to a path we may not be able to change for many generations to come.

I refuse to allow my emotions to control my decision making process.

No dream. I am a tad more pessimistic than that. But the voting choice in November is between effectively two socialists or perhaps a corporate socialist and a Moslem socialist. I will not vote for any socialist just because he is “our” socialist. I will not co-operate in shutting down the economy and chaining the society and am not tribal in outlook so, again, I won’t vote for a socialist just because he is not “our” socialist. You can get all sorts of rah rah hyper about your favorite socialist but it leaves me cold.

I’m not rah-rah hyper about anything this election, other than getting rid of Obama. In *MY* stinky opinion, we should elect the most viable candidate opposing Obama and then immediately begin working to find a primary-challenger (or three) for the next election. Or something like that. I don’t have all the answers, but I know the absolute worst option is to lay down and quit. We stand a better chance influencing the GOP candidate than the Dem candidate, no matter how short that leverage might be. I choose to keep fighting.

That the GOP has some conservatives like you frustrated & pessimistic probably tickles them no end. It is my hope that conservatives can get their act together. We got our butts handed to us this election because we had a crap-list of candidates and conservatives as a group couldn’t even agree on the color of the sky. What is patently obvious is that the support Romney received despite the availability of more conservative candidates tells me something isn’t in our favor. We need to fix that or folks like you will long for the days when you were only as pessimistic as you are now. Surrendering won’t make it better. Fighting on won’t guarantee it, but the odds are much better.
