She and Obama may have been ignorant of the fact that the Nazis deliberately chose to hide their worst dirty work on occupied foreign soil, away from the eyes of Germans and neutral diplomats, a fact that Poles deeply resent.
Calling them “Polish” death camps is an implicit smear against the Polish people. The worst nationality you could be during World War II, from the point of view of survival, was a Jew. The second worse was Polish. The very, very worse off were Polish Jews.
Fool, if Obama said Polish Death Camps then the Death Camps were Polish - until he says otherwise.

It’s not that the president so obviously misspoke, it’s his narcissistic refusal to stand up and say, “Oh crap, I’m terribly sorry. I didn’t mean it that way,” for the good of diplomacy. It tells us a lot about why this man must go. It’s all about Obama not the diplomatic good of the country.
A handshake and some kind public words would have gone a long way to smoothing things over. There would have been no story.
That old schtick only works on their own circle.

Oswiecim in Polish. Prussia, the Austro-Hungarian Empire and Russia divided Poland up among themselves on more than one occasion. So many of their cities have a Polish name and a German name.
