Anyone else think the Kings sandbagged game 5 so they could parade the Stanley Cup around home ice tonight? Quite a difference in their play in game 5 and tonight.

Congrats to the Kings and their fans for the winning the SC and to the Devils and their fans for winning the NHL East. Both the Kings and Devils had to beat some very good teams to get to the finals.

Thanks also to Airborne and Perdogg for running this thread and to all who participated here. It's been a real entertaining season with many surprises and some new records set or tied. Here's hoping to see y'all next season when the Wings win their twelfth SC Championship.

Not with Lindy Ruff as the head coach.

I was glad that they had a 3 - 0 lead after the first period. Took the pressure off.

Know nothing about hockey, except that John McMullen used to own my team the Astros. A pox upon that bastard.

Clearly, the Devils were unable to focus...

Congrats to the Kings and Darryl Sutter on their first Cup. Always great to watch the awarding of the Cup but I had to turn it off after that. I would have been rooting too hard for Jeff Carter to drop it on his head and would awaken my newborn. To borrow a line that I saw elsewhere, Central Ohio had to have sounded like a massive fit of Tourettes when he touched the Cup last night.

Thanks, Varda.

I can't argue with the five-minute major last night. I hate to see a call like that so early in a deciding game, but when you have a guy bloody and injured like that there's really nothing else the official can do but assess a major and a game misconduct.

To tell you the truth, I don't think it would have made much of a difference anyway. These Devils started to show signs that they were out of gas as far back as Game 5 of the Eastern Conference Finals (the Rangers outplayed them for most of Games 5 and 6 even though the Devils won both games), and there's no question that this Kings team was a machine that nobody was going to stop.

The scariest hockey player I ever saw up close was Scott Stevens. He wasn’t as tall or heavy as some of those other guys, but he had this strange look to him. Instead of being well-built and toned like a typical athlete, he was just BIG in every way. He looked like a normally-proportioned human being who was 20% larger than average by every measure ... giant head, huge feet (someone who would know this told me that he wore one of the largest pairs of skates in the NHL), and the biggest hands I’ve ever seem up close. Oh, and he has those bright blue eyes that look through you like lasers. LOL.

I think John McMullen was part of the ownership group that bought the Yankees from CBS with George Steinbrenner way back in the early 1970s. I believe he was the one who uttered the following classic quote:

"Nothing is so limited as being one of George's limited partners."
