Faced with breaking up a deadly violent assault, pulling a taser when by yourself is pretty risky to both the victim and the officer. While this guy wasn't armed he was inflicting life threatening injuries to his victim.

We had a local deputy try to taser a nut with a hammer. The taser failed and the deputy got hit in the head with a hammer to the tune of a severe concussion and 40 staples in his melon. The only thing that saved him was two back up officers and 12 rounds of .40 cal.
