Word For The Day, Thursday, June 21, 2012 - divulse
dictionaries ad nauseam | 21 June 2012 | Thursday's sub

Posted on 06/21/2012 4:49:30 AM PDT by secret garden

In order that we might all raise the level of discourse and expand our language abilities, here is the daily post of "Word for the Day".

divulse \dahy-VUHLS\, verb
To tear away or apart.

Example sentences:
A perforation having been so made, it is safer to divulse the opening rather than to enlarge it by cutting in order to avoid the possibility of opening a blood vessel in an inaccessible region.
-- Eugene Fuller, M.D., The Journal of the American Medical Association

Even if you are the kooper of the winkel over measure never lost a license. Nor a duckindonche divulse from bath and breakfast.
-- James Joyce, Finnegans Wake

Etymology:
Divulse comes from the Latin root vellere meaning "plucked". The prefix di- is a variation of dis- before the letter v meaning "apart" or "away", as in disown.

The sentence must, in some way, relate to the news of the day. The Review threads are linked for your edification. ;-)
Practice makes perfect.....post on....

You are surrounded by govt employees, not known for leaning Republican. Big govt is good for them but outside of the NoVA bubble, I think we have a very good shot.

So, does the rain in Spain fall mainly on the plain?

Nope. 8<)

I'm on the beach on the Spanish Riviera (at the fishing/tourist port called Cambrils) and the rain is regularly falling on the hills and mountains right behind me.

Literally - I'm off the beach by 1 block on the 4th floor and am watching the boats go by outside right now. 6:00 pm Spanish time. The power plant is also right on the beach about 20 km south.

And it’s my opinion that anyone who voted for obama IS a leftist nutball. There would have been no other reason to vote for him with the agenda he was promoting.

NoVA is far more populous than the rest of this swing state, and there have been articles to that effect here recently. i am not saying that we don’t have a good shot, but it is NOT going to be a cakewalk. OH is another swing state that is not a sure thing and it’s not govt employees driving that particular bus.

Misguided white guilt, blacks who were voting for THEIR man— not hard core leftist idealogues. Generally people are not LOOKING at agendas. we do, we are politically aware and informed, that is not the norm in life. The vast majority of people just do not give a crap about the big picture. they are looking at THEIR own interests. Last time they figured obams was going to get us out of the mess, this time, HOPEFULLY they see that he has made the mess worse and will not vote for a continuation. And if they just STAY HOME it’s fine with me, bc conservatives will crawl through raging fire, broken glass and HABOOBS to vote agin him!

Ohio is union-heavy, that’s their problem. I like the fact that all the states that leaned heavily toward obama have had significant economic woes since the election. Serves them right. Or left...

Unions are most def the problem. The question is will the union members vote against a democrat. my father was a union dem and i can tell you he would NEVER vote for a republican, the best i could have hoped for with him was that he would stay home. I still maintain he would have stayed home in 08, but it may very well be that the union had him voting for Obams from the grave.

did you watch any of the NHL awards last night? i liked the red carpet stuff this time. Though i was disturbed to see the Gingeroux was catting around Vegas with BizNasty, a bad bad influence! Some of the shanabanning skits were funny, but some were lame and when they showed Shanny, he didn’t look very amused!

I think the tide turned on O back when my dem driver went after us pubbies on the truckroom floor screaming he couldn’t vote for Obama again and that we needed to front a guy he COULD vote for. I always portray Romney to him as Dem Lite. I think he’s a solid Romney voter. His wife is a different story. She would never publicly say she wasn’t voting Dem. She was the top Dem working at the county’s board of elections for years.

what are the chances that NY will go for Romney? unlikely at best. what i need to see is a whole lot more of the Bubbaloon undermining him, THAT will truly give me hope. Hobbes has been banging the clintoon drum as a hopeful sign and i agree that’s good, but i need to see more of it to be sure it’s not just happenstance.

I caught the second half and we thought the Shanny bits were funny, even though he looked kind of peeved. I was annoyed that the gingers beat my players and it was an absolute joke that Karlson won over Shea Weber. The guy did ZERO special team time all season and he’s your best D man??? I don’t think so.

Billy Jeff has a long memory and I don’t think he cared much for how his “wife” was treated in the last primary. He is a consummate politician and may unveil an October surprise of his own.

and did ANYONE understand what Malkin said??? i think i picked up from Twitter that he dedicated it to Gonchar? can that be right. i thought he said something like he’s my best friend and i hope to meet him some day, totally incomprehensible! but i think he was the most deserving. he kept the Pens alive when the eggshell capt was nursing his scrambled brains back to health.

Obama down 20% among NC blacks. Black ministers ambushing Witholder to get to Obama with complaints about SSM. Unions in WI disillusioned by O and decimated by Walker. Dems ANNOUNCING they will not go to dem convention. Dems up for re-electin shunning Obama. Obama’s fundraising down. The only fans O has left are the Hollywood money class. Keep the faith. It’s happening. You live in a bubble, tell yourself that when you begin to doubt.

Absolutely. It’s a popularity contest. Could you believe when Gabriel Landes-something said his mom was in Hawaii working on her tan? She will never live that down. I would have been there for my kid. Hawaii can wait!
