Usually an emergency exit will have a warning light or alarm to indicate it has been opened.

That keeps one person with a ticket from opening the door un-noticed and letting a bunch of freeloaders storm in.

Actually no. Many of the movie plexes I have been too allow people to walk out the Emergency Exits at the end of the movie. Its not like the emergency exits on say a restaraunt where if you push the metal handle the fire alarm goes off. The movie plex I go to here in Florida, if its a full house - about 1/4 leave out the emergency exit and no fire alarm goes off. I think what happened last night will change that policy.

Just like my sons and their friends did in the 70s.(I found out about 20 years later).
