The Canadian team should be happy that the refs didn’t call other fouls like ... oh ... that stomp on the head of a player that was on the ground ... among others.
The Men's team isn't there .... didn't qualify.
It might help if you think of soccer as somewhat of a chess match. There's a lot of strategy as opposed to a lot of scoring. It's interesting to watch the teams form attacks while the opposite team puts together its defense while putting together a counter strike.

Outside of the US Men’s Swimmers, the US men have faired very poorly in these games, compared to the women.
