If the tinkerer, Manny Garrido, was not seriously hurt, going to the hospital was stupid. Talking to the cops was dumber. Now he's going in jail, likely prison, and will have a felony record. Thanks, dad. This is SO wrong on so many levels.

Agreed. He and the father were stupid on far too many levels. If nothing else, change clothes before going to the hospital and swear up and down that he was a mugging victim. Of course, we don't know if dear old dad thought prison might be the best place for him or what.
