The Monkees are to perform their first live shows since Davy Jones died in February.
Mike Nesmith is joining Micky Dolenz and Peter Tork for a 12-date US tour in November.
The concert will see the three surviving members of the band play together again for the first time in 15 years.
Nesmith, who had shunned previous reunions, was quoted by Rolling Stone magazine as saying: "This seems like a good time to do this - the right time. Who knows when we will get another chance?" Nesmith, Dolenz and Tork will kick off their tour on November 8 in Escondido in California, wrapping up on December 2 in New York.
The surviving Monkees said the 12 dates would highlight Jones "in the show's multimedia content"

Sorry, but I stand by the common knowledge of that time and the fact that most of their early shows admitted that their music was augmented by studio musicians . . . probably because they were still taking lessons.
What--ever (as Jerry Springer's guests would say), their music was lame and their shows were low grade. And the little guy who looked and sounded like a girl was too much.
Well then your ‘common knowledge’ is wrong.
Although there probably were studio musicians used at different points during recording, Tork and Dolenz hardly needed ‘lessons’ on how to play.
I really find it fascinating that you would refuse to research the information on these guys that is all over the net with not only Wiki entries, but personal biographies as well, and would rather stand by your assumptions.
Seems a bit obtuse to me.
But, as you say , whatever.
Nesmith came from the LA folkie circuit. He most certainly could play. The others not so much, I guess.
No, Zappa...
I know a guy who used to be a backstage guitarist for the Commodores. Apparently the on stage guitarist couldn’t play.
The funniest clip I remember was where Frank Zappa was dressed up as Mike and Mike was playing Zappa and pretending to interview him.
Where are they playing? The Lawrence Welk Theater?
I hear they booked the Shady Oaks Rest Home.
“Tork and Dolenz hardly needed lessons on how to play.”
Should have read ‘Tork and Nesmitt’.
Although Dolenz already knew how to play guitar.
I have to get to bed...work at 11pm. I’ll have to FReepmail you tomorrow. Do you have his work from TV or Elephant Parts? I think I have them on ....VHS, LOL!
I got to sing with Davey Jones about ten years ago. Cool.
McDonald was a very poor substitute for Johnston, IMHO. Talented guy, but changed their musical direction drastically. Some loved it; they had a lot of commercial success. I didn’t. Hated it.
Zappa got Ringo Starr to dress up like him too, in the movie 200 Motels. I guess he figured it was a good bit.
LOL! I never saw 200 motels.
RIP Frank
Pleasant Valley Sunday!
You’re funny. And clearly too lazy to do even the most basic research into a topic before sounding off. But I do apologize. Knowing what I’m talking about must be a terrible blow. Oh sure, I could educate you by citing the specific instrumental abilities they had before the Monkees came to be, but where’s the sport in that?
Don’t care about the Monkees, I’m waiting for the Honeycombs.
