The Monkees are to perform their first live shows since Davy Jones died in February.

Mike Nesmith is joining Micky Dolenz and Peter Tork for a 12-date US tour in November.

The concert will see the three surviving members of the band play together again for the first time in 15 years.

Nesmith, who had shunned previous reunions, was quoted by Rolling Stone magazine as saying: "This seems like a good time to do this - the right time. Who knows when we will get another chance?" Nesmith, Dolenz and Tork will kick off their tour on November 8 in Escondido in California, wrapping up on December 2 in New York.

The surviving Monkees said the 12 dates would highlight Jones "in the show's multimedia content"

This is cool, but I'd rather see a reunion of Michael Nesmith and the First National Band. I've become quite a fan of the Nez in the last few months.

They should have a hologram of Davy Jones just like they did with Tupac Shakur!

I’m a Nez fan too however he is a flaming, leftist elitist. Very active in....ummm ...Santa Fe , hoetey toetey scociety.

And how nice of him to join now that Davey is dead.

Maybe he has some regrets for not performing earlier.

That said Nez was incredible, way ahead of his time. His Video Ranch started out as a great idea but has fallen into self promotion.

Cool.  I hope they come to the Detroit area again.  My wife and I saw them last year and it was the best concert we've been to.  Obviously, it won't be the same without Davey but, then again, it wasn't the same without Mike either.

When I was younger I had a huge crush on Davey Jones and wanted to marry him. I saw Grease on Stage and Davey Jones was playing the DJ and he was walking around the audience and I still got heart palpitations even though he was much older.

Was not aware of Nesmith’s politics, but am not surprised. Likely most of the artists I like are lefties.....which means I would never go to hear them speak at a rally, but will still enjoy their music.

Royalties?  His mother sold the company years ago to Gillette for about $45 million.

I don’t think Michael Nesmith is hurting financially.

Your first name wouldn't happen to be "Marcia", would it? ;)

Repo Man and Lyle Swan the Timerider were great flicks. The opening scene of Timerider with the old man at the fire was priceless.

LMAO......so well put. Some will get that; many won’t. :)

Dolenz is great; Nesmith is talented but a self-absorbed asshole; Tork is ....well, Tork.

Without Jones, they can’t really be the Monkees. Maybe...Monk.

It’s like.....shoot, pick one; how about Van Halen touring without Michael Anthony; not as much for his bass work (which was superb) but that amazing voice on backup vocals and harmonies. Just not the same.

Bands never cease to amaze me. They establish identities; they get their own character via the personalities that accomplish this: their voices, their instruments.

Then.....they feel they can just shed one or two key members who DEFINED that sound and everyone will just shrug it off.

Rarely happens. Deep Purple, AC/DC, a few others hugely benefited from the addition of new lead singers. Still, a rarity.

Agreed. I see the show just to see Nesmith. I loved “Infinite Rider on the Big Dogma.”

One of the first groups that turned out to be media creations and frauds. Never liked them even after they finally learned how to play their instruments.

"This seems like a good time to do this - the right time."

I don't know. I think that maybe before February might have been a better time.

Same here, a real bummer! Merle Haggard, Willie, I am so disappointd when the spout thwcleftist stuff. To Nez’s credit he isn’t national AFAIK.

Keeps it local.

His website was the big problem for me. For a lefty he is very capitalistic.

Wanting to be paid for his work is fine but he says one thing, does another.

Do you have any of his cd’s? I have a couple and they are great!

A friend of mine dated Mickey and worked as a dancer on the TV show. She still sees these guys all the time and is really into that whole thing.
