Fishing and hunting are on the upswing across America, a welcome message Secretary of the Interior Ken Salazar delivering this week around the Midwest.

On Wednesday in Milwaukee, Salazar said the preliminary results of a comprehensive national survey showed an 11 percent increase in anglers and a 9 percent increase in hunters over the past five years. Nearly 38 percent of Americans participated in wildlife-related recreation in 2011, an increase of 2.6 million from a 2006 survey.

"Seeing more people fishing, hunting and getting outdoors is great news for America's economy and conservation heritage," said Salazar. "Outdoor recreation and tourism are huge economic engines for local communities and the country, so it is vital we continue to support policies and investments that help Americans get outside, learn to fish or go hunting."

Outdoors-minded people spent $145 billion on related gear, trips, licenses and land leases and ownership. It represents 1 percent of the nation's gross national product.

Six percent or 13.7 million Americans who are 16, or older, hunted in 2011, spending $34 billion. The survey tallied 33 million anglers 16 and older who spent $41.8 billion last year, an average of $1,262 per fisherman. More than 71 million watched wildlife, spending $55 billion. The surveys have been done every five years since 1955.

He says its good news for the economy which it is but its also a result of a poor economy. People are seeking any means possible of filling their freezers.

True, but Salazar himself and his staff represented a foot in the aisle, NOT a facilitator!

Salazar: People are hunting and fishing in greater numbers because they’re hungry, fool!

Fawning Marxist syncophant and serial Obama ass-kisser Salazar could endeavor to open ANWR and promote drilling on both coasts...

‘Spose gasoline prices might drop a bit and a buncha good paying jobs open up if it were announced by FUBO’s Sec of Int that drilling would commence?

But as long as the douche-bag is in DC sucking up to (and what is thy bidding, Master?) Barry Soetoro, he’s not back her in Colorado mucking things up...

Good riddance...

When you have more time than money, you stock the larder any way you can.
