Seconding that: back in the late 1980’s, my Squadron deployed to an old, shut-down Air Base in Oklahoma. The Field Mess served a hot breakfast. A buddy of mine showed me the (empty) cans of bacon and powdered eggs. They were dated 1943 and 1945, respectively. Tasted fine. . .

In the very first of the 1970s we were still eating WWII C-rations, if I recall right.

I own some C-rations in their original boxes, and I would still eat them.
