You can buy old C-rations on ebay. But they always have the disclaimer of "for collector purposes only".

I wonder if the military has ever tested these for edibility, just out of curiosity.

Canned foods don’t go bad, as long as they are sealed then they are edible.

What happens is that things may change some in texture and flavor, and nutrition may fade, but they are always safe to eat.

I noticed that foods with pasta in them do not age well because the pasta changes, so I always use those products within the 2 year period or so, corn and tuna do great, and I have eaten 25 year old cabbage from a survival can that was fine.

I’m still eating tuna from 2004.
