Looking to buy an AK 47 - not one of the Romanian ones either.
Is there any online gun stores anyone would recommend?
I do not live in California.
There’s nothing wrong with the Romanian models.
Pick a better gun
I agree, in fact I think the Romanian ones are better than average.
At one time, I bought, traded, sold etc. maybe a dozen different AK style rifles. The roughest ones were made in China but then again a Polytech made in China was one of the best.
Even the cheapest Chinese made ones worked tho. The best one by far was a Valmet that I actually never got. I came about as close to trading for one as a person could get but then never could close the deal.

Check out the Saiga made in Izmash. I can’t remember the model name tho.. I was so impressed we got a couple of them.
Reliable and greatly accurate for a 16” barrel.
Never a malfunction even after heavy abuse. Missippi Auto Arms has the proper mags for them. That’s the only downside- they are mag specific and using a standard ak mag would involve some fine tuning to the mag.
Excellant weapon otherwise.
You should research exactly what kind of AK47 you want (Russian, Polish, Egyptian, etc). There are many types and variations. Even AK 74s and other 5.45x39 are often referred in the general AK 47 group.
Find your local online gun group, in Indiana, they are called IN Gun Owners. Ask them about local gun stores. Also, once you know exactly what you want and how much you are willing to pay, you can look up used AKs at gunbroker.com and armslist.com

Take a look at the Yugo-built Zastava—
Good quality-nice
Long time owner of a M70-AB2
I bought two Saigas and then converted them to correct form.
Meaning, replaced and moved fire control group forward, installed pistol grip, and installed bullet guide in one,
the 7.62x39 to use regular ak magazines. Basic saiga costs around 430.00. The conversion parts are about 120.00.
Many guided and discussion of pertinent federal regulations 922r (parts requirements) and state laws/limitation depending on which state you live in.
— Or you can avoid all that and just buy an Arsenal or another brand that has done the conversion already.
The Bulgarian milled receiver models are better that the rifles made from stamped parts. Look for rifle called SA M-7, I've got one and it's fun to shoot and it's much better now that it has a longer stock.
gunbroker.com - that’s where I got mine.
I got most of my conversion parts from Carolina Shooters Supply. I highly recommend them for any ak parts that you may want to buy. Great service.
Thanks. The wierd thing is I really like the way it is.
I’ve been a FAL guy for years and have witnessed awful triggers a time or two, but I have no problem with the current trigger. As for the mag issue, the twins are the only ak pattern we have in the house, not likely to be confused with others.
Look at I.O. Inc.
For the price I don’t think you can beat the Romanian ones. They are rough, but mine has gone bang quote reliably. I had a minor issue with the trigger spring, but a file and a pair of pliers fixed it.
Try that with an AR. LOL
But a Daewoo DR300 (7.62X39) or Daewoo DR200 (.223).
