Masters cannot even use the bible unaltered. Here is his version of Genesis 1 -

“In the beginning, there was only a spiritual dimension in which all things existed. Since God had dominion over His “world,” and His face could be seen, there was only mechanical obedience to his rule. And nothing was free to love Him, for men were not free to disobey. Neither could they offer themselves, for everything was made by Him, given by Him, and everything was Him. So God expressed Himself and set them free. And as the converging rays of sunlight flow through a lens, there appeared an inverted image of this spiritual world in material form. A world of evolution and growth, where in time, substance could attain the spiritual form. A life without knowledge of Him, a world unconscious to law, and freed from rule and control. A world of time, illusion, suffering and greed, to contrast the timeless truth, bliss and love. Now, free from spiritual rule, men could learn to love, possessing freedom and power; therefore men could “give up”, as God did, in His love. And this is the purpose of God when He expressed Himself. So He created the Heaven and the earth”

He claims to be a Jew, but I doubt any rabbi would make the above translation. Life is easy when you make it up.

How It Works Unlike Eastern meditations that mask reality with mindless mantras, or hypnosis that provides a temporary feeling of well-being, “Be Still and Know” shows you how to sharpen your awareness by calmly dealing with the pressures of life. In “Be Still and Know” Roy Masters shows you how to meet stress head-on without having to escape into mindless distractions or positive-thinking “feel-good” routines.

Once again let me ask you...what does this have to do with the doctrines of Christianity? Does Masters also insist atheists can benefit from his "Be still" exercise or must they first convert to his version of Christianity for it to help them?

Why can't you seem to see that Roy Masters is not a theologian, he has NO formal training nor study of the faith or the Scriptures? He has devised his own worldview along with his own version of the Christian faith and seeks to recruit everyone he can to join his new religion. You can't call it "Christian" if it doesn't follow the tenets of what makes a Christian, sorry, you just can't. One last question, does Roy believe anyone has been saved before he came along? And if he does, then his version must not be the truth. If he doesn't, then what kind of a God do you believe in that would allow so many millions to perish and who still are if they are unaware of Mastersism?

Hmmm...reminds me of a certain science fiction writer who went on to be the founder of a new religion. L. Ron, someone? ;o)

And Masters does not even need the sandals to decieve !

Well, I got a pair of Nike sandals some months ago, and they are the most comfortable shoes I have ever owned, and I walk about 5 miles a day... they are all I ever wear.

No hordes of teenage followers though. Rather have few curvy middle aged ones, actually, if I had my druthers.

Oh, well...God has a plan. ;^)

Could you tell me where Jesus (The Son of God) got his formal training in the Scriptures?

Or many of the other disciples who were simple fisherman?

Well, obviously I am making it clear that this is NOT an eastern mantra type of meditation which has been posted here. I like for the biblical Be Still to be truly represented and this is MY thread that I initiated, so you don’t control what I post and not. If you want to further expound on what I see is your confusion, then by all means please do.

Yes, they did not. They were not learned men, they were laborers and such and they were blessed on Pentecost, just as we should all be once we become reborn. They are making salvation an intellectual experience without realizing it as they are so immersed in that.

Are these supposed to be hard questions?

Could you tell me where Jesus (The Son of God) got his formal training in the Scriptures?

First of all, Jesus IS the Word (the LOGOS). Second, Jesus IS God in the flesh (incarnate) and all Scripture is GOD-breathed, which makes Jesus VERY familiar with Scripture. Simply read any of the gospels to see that Jesus knew the Scriptures better than any religious leader could even think. He even knew the SPIRIT of the word and not just the letter, which, if I remember is what Mr. Masters claims he can do too and which he insists his followers should also progress enough to be able to do. The thing is, you have to know the Scriptures first before you can understand them. Jesus, for example, answered every one of Satan's temptations with, "It is written...". That should give you an idea of the importance of the Scriptures. The WORD has power, don't let anyone convince you it doesn't.

Or many of the other disciples who were simple fisherman?

Simple, they sat at the feet of Jesus for three years! How could they NOT know the Scriptures? Not to mention, most, though they might have been fisherman, were STILL observant Jews, who had been raised in the Temple, knowing the Old Testament. Jesus taught them the fulfillment of those words and he also taught them new truths regarding himself and God's plans for the church age. When Jesus was about to leave them to ascend to heaven, he said he would send the Holy Spirit, who would bring to their remembrance all that he had taught them and also:

But the Counselor, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you. (John 14:26)

But when the Comforter is come, whom I will send unto you from the Father, even the Spirit of truth, which proceedeth from the Father, he shall testify of me, and you also must testify, for you have been with me from the beginning. (John 15:26,27)

And, also this was written by Luke in the book of Acts:

I wrote about all that Jesus began to do and to teach until the day he was taken up to heaven, after giving instructions through the Holy Spirit to the apostles he had chosen. After his suffering, he presented himself to them and gave many convincing proofs that he was alive. He appeared to them over a period of forty days and spoke about the kingdom of God. On one occasion, while he was eating with them, he gave them this command: “Do not leave Jerusalem, but wait for the gift my Father promised, which you have heard me speak about. For John baptized with water, but in a few days you will be baptized with the Holy Spirit.” Then they gathered around him and asked him, “Lord, are you at this time going to restore the kingdom to Israel?” He said to them: “It is not for you to know the times or dates the Father has set by his own authority. But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.” (Acts 1:1-8)

This is not YOUR thread, it is a thread that you began in an OPEN forum owned by Jim Robinson. As such, part of the deal is OTHERS have every right to come on and add their comments to the thread - which we have for the past week. I get it that you don’t like the content of our replies, but you should expect that when you make statements that go against the beliefs of others, they can and should be able to dispute them. You avoided my questions - again. Why is that?

Really? Is that something you made up or is it another Royism? Regardless, tedw, NO Christian here says that they can be saved and keep on sinning and still go to heaven. What we HAVE been saying, and which the Bible attests to, is that we are saved by God's grace through faith and that not ourselves, not of works, lest any man should boast (Ephesians 2:8,9). We have been saved "unto good works which God has prepared for us to walk in them." (Ephesians 2:10) What this means is that we aren't going to heaven because we have earned or merited it but by God's mercy and grace which is UNdeserved and UNmerited. A child of God is given a new, spirit nature, that is no longer a slave to sin but has, through the power of God, the ability to live for God in holiness that pleases Him. This does not mean we NEVER sin, that is a false construct, but that we will not be inclined to the old nature's rebellion from God and continue sinning as if there had been no spiritual change within. When we DO sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ, who is our mediator and we can confess our sins and He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and cleanse us from all unrighteousness (I John 1:9).

There is a HUGE difference between being saved by grace apart from our works and our works being a testament to the faith that is within us. The "just shall live by faith", Scripture says. Our works, our manner of life, demonstrates our faith. So, no genuine Christian would take the gift of eternal life and then live like the devil - it is NOT part of the spiritual DNA. And anyone who says that we MUST do good deeds, works, refrain from all sin, in order to BE saved, is preaching an accursed gospel according to the Apostle Paul. Salvation is by grace through faith alone. You can't earn it no matter how sinless you try to be.

I see, so that is somehow different than my affirmative action salvation? ( And yes, it is my own term).. No, if you are honest, you guys have fought me all the way about my idea of being free from sin as I have shown you is even all over the new testament once we are saved. You are proposing that we can still sin and go to heaven! I did, however state that once we are really on the path to salvation and if our life were cut short, there still would be a home in heaven for us. But once the born again experience is done, there is no more possibility of sinning because we are sealed into God’s army at that point.
And of course not sinning is an not effort of our own. It is a blessing just as they were blessed at the Pentecost. But you keep on denying the very power of what Jesus did! You seem to be compulsive in that, like you will not let it go.

You "welcome" them? Sure didn't sound like that when you started out calling people dummies, liars, Pharisees, etc.. Normally, when someone posts a thread, they do so to start a discussion. The way you are responding it's like you want to say what you want and everyone should just be delighted to join you in agreement. The thing is, you have said things, Roy Masters has said things, that come flat up against Biblical Christianity and I have asked you probably ten times now why Masters' version of Christianity is at all related to his simple (your word) "Be still" exercise and you have not once given an answer. This tells me you are avoiding it. Now, either you don't know the answer or you are afraid to say it. Which is it?

My questions are completely ON topic since it is YOU that insists Roy Masters is an "amazing Biblical Christian". I want to know how he can call himself "Biblical" when we have spent the last week showing you how far off he is concerning what the Bible says. You have been shown that he rewrites the Bible according to his own thinking. He even dismisses knowing that the Bible is important because he thinks we can "learn" all we need to know by being still and just watching. I'm not the one who is "trying to control" anything, I am asking fairly easy questions and getting the runaround for the last week. Maybe you thought Free Republic was filled with people who are ignorant about spiritual matters. I hope you will think again next time you want to post a thread praising your new prophet. I hope AND pray that you will see the error in what you are following and will turn to Jesus Christ and follow in His way.

“amazing Biblical Christian”.....where did I write that? And the Be still exercise, as I have demonstrated, is in the bible and is a silent simple prayer which is a much better way to pray than talking to God. That was a good answer but you missed it.
And when you guys presumptuously come here and accuse the man that is the topic of my post as being something totally different than what he is and many know him as, that is being like a pharisee and your repeated attempt at painting him as a false Christian is indeed dumb to put it rather nicely. Don’t try and make me out to be what you guys have done to a very noble man. I have stated the truth about you all and you guys have repeatedly misstated facts about Roy. That is a fact. Can you deal with it honestly?

Yes, and which perversion is from his “Secret of Life,” p. 10 book, quoted as part of a larger expose (http://www.theworldviewcenter.org/encyclopedia_foundationforhumanunderstanding.html) some of which was provided before.

Who also says things like,

You need never turn the pages of a book in order to know the answer to life (Secret of Life, pp. 129-130).

But Scripture saith,

“Write the things which thou hast seen, and the things which are, and the things which shall be hereafter; “ (Revelation 1:19)

“But these are written, that ye might believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God; and that believing ye might have life through his name. “ (John 20:31)

“These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God; that ye may know that ye have eternal life, and that ye may believe on the name of the Son of God. “ (1 John 5:13)

“Seek ye out of the book of the Lord, and read..” (Isaiah 34:16)

“And beginning at Moses and all the prophets, he expounded unto them in all the scriptures the things concerning himself. “ (Luke 24:27)

“Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth. “ (2 Timothy 2:15)

To which more can be added that is against this hypnotic cultists imagination which exalts itself against the knowledge of God based upon Scripture, which warns of men such as Masters, “intruding into those things which he hath not seen, vainly puffed up by his fleshly mind.” (Col. 2:18) but the true believer is to be “Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ; “ (2 Corinthians 10:5)

For “It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God,” (Matthew 4:4), and which the Lord exampled by quoted the words of Scripture against the devil, who, like Masters, misappropriated it in exalting himself.

Sorry BB, but you are not part of the esoteric cult that considers their revelations holy and are not subject to proof by the words of Scripture, while a Bible can be chucked:

“The whole process of growing is not from words but from realizing and then you can throw your Bible in the garbage can and there’s no sin in that.” (”The Mystery of Golgotha,” tape).

And “The Scriptures can poison you, and destroy you. They are lethal, they are deadly. They are more deadly than any drug.” (Tape No. 20, “The Sayings of Jesus—Right Tradition.”)

And “Study kills. It is a very dangerous ‘informing’ indeed.” (The Satan Principle, pp. 38-39)

Meanwhile, consistent with his rejection of Biblical hermeneutics, which, as in everyday communication, takes into account context, genre, grammar, etc. in understanding, with the Holy Spirit giving added discernment to believers, Masters “proof text,” “Be still, and know that I am God” and which goes on to say, : I will be exalted among the heathen, I will be exalted in the earth, “ (Psalms 46:10) is a misappropriation, as it is not referring to getting oneself into a highly suggestive mental state, including in order to hear from God in a way that is divorced from the words of Scripture, but contextually it is referring to standing in awe in seeing God do the work of subduing His enemies:

“Come, behold the works of the Lord, what desolations he hath made in the earth. He maketh wars to cease unto the end of the earth; he breaketh the bow, and cutteth the spear in sunder; he burneth the chariot in the fire. “ (Psalms 46:8-9)

And which is in the context of promoting faith to trust God to do so, rather than striving to fight in your own strength, as it begins, “God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble. Therefore will not we fear, though the earth be removed, and though the mountains be carried into the midst of the sea; “ (Psalms 46:1-2)

And which corresponds to “And Moses said unto the people, Fear ye not, stand still, and see the salvation of the Lord, which he will shew to you to day: for the Egyptians whom ye have seen to day, ye shall see them again no more for ever. “ (Exodus 14:13)

And,

“Ye shall not need to fight in this battle: set yourselves, stand ye still, and see the salvation of the Lord with you, O Judah and Jerusalem: fear not, nor be dismayed; to morrow go out against them: for the Lord will be with you. “ (2 Chronicles 20:17)

And which things we know by Scripture, and are opposed to worry, and instead they promote faith, knowing that we are laborers together with God, (1Cor. 3:9) who is the One who really effectually works in and thru us as we trust and obey Him consistent with Scripture. (Phil. 2:12,13; cf. Jn. 14:10; Mt. 4:4)

Thus once again, Scripture interprets Scripture, the Holy Spirit accordingly, and casting down the imaginations of Masters resulting from his unScriptural hyper suggestive esoteric “revelations” which he considers holy, while the Bible can be used as Charmin.

By the way, you guys, other than Tedw, tend to give me long and many pointed questions that are difficult to answer all and then blame me for not addressing everything....yet I have not seen one of you answer my simple question of ~
Since according to you all the main or at least very very important tenent of Christianity is believing Jesus is indeed God, then why in all of his teachings of stories and parables did he not address this and make it one of his important talks like the sermon on the Mt.? There should be at least ONE parable comparing all three...holy spirit, Son, and Father as being equal as you claim...certainly at least one! Correct?

—— There should be at least ONE parable comparing all three...holy spirit, Son, and Father as being equal as you claim...certainly at least one! Correct? -——

Jesus told us where to go for answers to questions such as this:

“If the person still refuses to listen, take your case to the church. Then if he or she won’t accept the church’s decision, treat that person as a pagan or a corrupt tax collector.”

Elsewhere, St. Paul refers to the Church as “the pillar and foundation of truth.”

Jesus didn’t speak in philosophical or theological language. We can only guess as to why. His lessons were usually given in parables; stories that are accessible to all people; stories that can be passed down orally.

Nevertheless, the Church teaches dogmatically in precise philosophical and theological language.

Luther’s doctrine of “the Bible ALONE” makes the Bible a dead letter.

Catholics rely on the authoritative teaching of the Church, “the pillar and foundation of truth,” to interpret the Bible —the Bible that the Church gave birth to and preserved.

Not today’s church that is embroiled into the apostasy! And I am sorry, but telling me that Jesus did not speak in doctrinal language just does not cut it! If this was such a critical issue for salvation, he CERTAINLY would have addressed it at least in a parable form, which is what he did about forgiveness and other critical topics that are needed for our salvation. I have proven my point within the bible. Will anyone here be humble enough to admit or see this?
