Generation Esmeralda is a disco act formed by former members of Santa Esmeralda, which had its heyday in the 1970's. "Don't Let Me Be Misunderstood" by Santa Esmeralda was one of about a dozen songs in the 70's that was worth anything. In fact,it's a true classic of all decades.

The Animals version maybe. I’ve never heard of this band and never heard their version.

Rip off of the Animals. Somehow reached #15 in 1977. Rip off? So once someone has a hit with a song nobody else can touch it? If that was the case half my music collection would disappear. There are many songs that are great enough that they can be done by more than one artist and be well done by all.For me one case in point is "Mr Tambourine Man".Dylan, the Byrds and Judy Collins have all done it and all three versions are among my very favorite songs of all time.Three very different interpretations, all classics.

It is a bitch when you piss away all your money on Drugs Hookers and Booze and you have to play set after set for rent money in a Rio dive at 59. Yep...gotta love that! I know when I go that is right up there on my list.

Nina Simone sang the song first. The Animals covered her version.

After years of playing disco, I guess his heart just wasn’t in it anymore.

Plenty of famous musicians play in other countries such as Rio..they have fans there also.

Anyway, didn’t Elvis’ Heavenly Vegas Band need a drummer? (Keith Moon and Ringo Starr wouldn’t qualify.)
