What was the Tunnell thing about?

He was, shall we say, overly-aggressive in how he decided to prosecute the war in Afghanistan. His entire command philosophy and all related "atta-boys" were centered on killing and destroying. His commanders took that cue and moved further to the hard core. 2-1 IN BN, in particular, was run by a raging dick who actually was relieved of command. That Battalion was all kinds of screwed up, and, now, several Soldiers are on trial for multiple murders in Afghanistan. COL Tunnell was very nearly relieved at the Brigade's NTC rotation. He had no interest in training for the counterinsurgency mission--he only cared about doing some Brigade live-fire exercise that had no bearing on reality with respect to the OEF theater or mission set. The two-star that was grading him eventually, reluctantly decided to allow him to pass NTC and not recommend his removal.

We had all kinds of fun in Afghanistan, too. The RC-South commander was this British general, the same idiot pacifist who recommended to GEN McChrystal the creation of the "courageous restraint" award. Match him up with the overly-aggressive warmonger COL Tunnell, and there was no shortage of political drama on Kandahar.
