I Miss...
October3, 2012 | Doc Savage

Posted on 10/03/2012 1:02:17 PM PDT by Doc Savage

The other day I heard the voices of Ozzie and Harriet on the radio , and I suddenly realized how much I missed them. I also miss Don Knotts, and Paul Lynde, and 'Horshack' and 'Fred Mertz'. I miss 'Buck Rogers' and 'Ming the Merciless' and crisp, clear autumn Saturdays at my college football games. Guess I could go on forever. Just wondered what you guys missed?

Amen.

She did have a good run, though.

At a bar down in Dallas

An old man chimed in

And I thought he

Was out of his head

Just being a young man

I just laughed it off

When I heard what

That old man had said

He said, I'll never again

Turn the young ladies heads

Or go running off into the wind

I'm three quarters home

From the start to the end

And I wish I was eighteen again

I wish I was eighteen again

And going where I've never been

But old folks and old oaks

Standing tall just pretend

I wish I was eighteen again

Now time turns the pages

And, oh, life goes so fast

The years turn the

Black hair all grey

I talked to some young folks

Hey, they don't understand

The words this old man's got to say

I wish I was eighteen again

And going where I've never been

But old folks and old oaks

Standing tall just pretend

I wish I was eighteen again

I miss Rodney Dangerfield

I found there was only one way to look thin: hang out with fat people.
Rodney Dangerfield

I get no respect. The way my luck is running, if I was a politician I would be honest.
Rodney Dangerfield

A girl phoned me the other day and said... ‘Come on over, there’s nobody home.’ I went over. Nobody was home.
Rodney Dangerfield

I haven’t spoken to my wife in years. I didn’t want to interrupt her.
Rodney Dangerfield

I drink too much. The last time I gave a urine sample it had an olive in it.
Rodney Dangerfield

My psychiatrist told me I was crazy and I said I want a second opinion. He said okay, you’re ugly too.

“More.Playing in the cemetery, on the railroad tracks and gravel pit.”

As a six year old growing up in NYC, a bunch of us would rush to construction sites after school and build sand castles as tall as we were. We had to run down subway stairs and up them on the other side. No fears. After an hour, one of our mothers would appear and sometimes help us build.

Song: I Love
Artist: Tom T Hall
Album: Ultimate Collection

I love little baby ducks, old pick-up trucks, slow-moving trains, and rain
I love little country streams, sleep without dreams, sunday school in may,
And hay
And i love you too

I love leaves in the wind, pictures of my friends, birds in the world, and squirrels
I love coffee in a cup, little fuzzy pups, bourbon in a glass, and grass and i love you too

I love honest open smiles, kisses from a child, tomatoes on the vine, and onions
I love winners when they cry, losers when they try, music when it’s good, and life
And i love you too

Fall bird hunting in the north woods of Michigan with my dad and brothers. Especially with my dad. I miss all the things I got to do with him. He passed in 2007 but those memories will remain with me until the day I die.

I miss being able to walk into the local hardware store, show my ID to prove I was over 18, and buy a sporterized surplus Mauser K98 with no paperwork required.

I miss all the freedom we’ve lost, that my kids and grandkids will never know.

I miss when kids could be kids. When they could watch shows that weren’t PC and laugh.

When TV was filled with quality shows that didn’t cater to perverts and a need to show death so easily.

When the TV News still actually gave you some straight news, and the news guys had some pride.

Commercials that appealed to our good side, and celebrated America when they sold me tissue.

When Democrats still mostly loved America even with the kooks they had.

When everything in the world wasn’t so connected. Where you lived in a unique place that didnt look like every other place.

Drive-ins and gas wars.

The squealing whirl of a CD player or the crackle of a record.

When you didn’t have to drive 15 miles to get to the country.

Late night TV when they showed all of the weird fun stuff.

And I honestly miss old school computers from the 90s warts and all.

I miss real ice cold Dr. Pepper in a glass bottle , pulling it out of one of those old single stack soda machines at the salvage yard when dad would take me with him. I miss toys that were made of wood, metal, or that indestructible swirl plastic. I miss stuff that can be fixed when it breaks or even stuff that you had to work at to break—would last forever if used properly. I miss and feel sorry for my children that the old cartoons I watched on Saturday morning and after school won’t be there. I miss real actual customer service so much so that when I encounter it now I am shocked. I miss Koogle peanut butter, the Frito Bandito , Teem soda, and the shaggy haired indignant guy the advertised for Doritos. I miss toys that were supposed to be played with. Not limited edition this and that collectibles. I miss electric trains being toys hot wheels cars as something to ram into each other, and action figures something to blow up with left over firecrackers......

I miss going to sleep at night with the doors unlocked and the windows wide open - letting the hum of the insects lul me to sleep. I still watch all the old movies and I still come across some I have never seen. I don’t watch any of the new movies - they are all so depressing.
