LOL...I used to have neighbors and we’d sit out back and try different wines, BBQ, share the latest news, scandal and gossip. We really became quite *the* wine snobs. Good thing they moved away, b/c I might have become an alcoholic! LOL Don’t get me started on single malt Scotch. :0P

When my kids were young, they were allowed to have a sip of wine with a meal. I thought that that would take the *mystery* out of drinking. Now that they are grown, none have a problem with drinking. I don’t really know if that is the reason why.

You did the right thing. You taught moderation (a sip), safe experimentation (parental supervision), social context (dinner with family), buffering of effects of alcohol (wine with a meal). You provided the proper context for drinking, and the children learned well. I think the kids who grow up with alcohol problems aren't introduced to alcohol the right way: it's something off-limits and forbidden until they're 21, then they go wild and become irresponsible with it.

Thanks. I don’t take any credit, we were just lucky I guess, b/c the 3 boyz didn’t give us a lick of trouble while they were growing up.

I do think that b/c we always lived on the *water*, they were occupied with wholesome activities, swimming, boating, fishing, yada and weren’t hanging out with the *wrong* crowd. I don’t believe we heard *I’m bored....there’s nothing to do.*

That and Scouting. :)

As long as it’s the Grand Estates. The other, not so much.

‘Can’t drink Chardoannay. Though the TJs in Glendale CA has a nice white Rioja called Marques De Caceres from Spain under $10.

>>Alamos Malbec 2010 (Mendosa Argentina)

It just so happens I tried a glass of that at dinner a little while ago, and then saw your post as I was closing a bunch of open tabs on this machine.

Highly recommended if it’s under $10. If my Costco has it tomorrow I’ll probably buy a case.

We primarily buy wine at a Costco in Virginia, usually Cabernet. The Black Box Cabernet is actually fairly good, and at $15.89 works out to just shy of four dollars a bottle. There’s also a Robert Mondavier Cabernet which is very reliable at $7.99. Stretching your budget a bit is the Francis Coppola Claret, $11.89, which is well worth the extra two bucks.

As if you did not have enough ideas, I like any Merlot from the state of Washington—Columbia Crest, Chateau San Michelle.
