Apparently, America has gone to pot in more ways then one.
I feel fortunate to have not been there in the last ten years.
Monica’s problem is that she would rather be single than to settle for any man who would actually want her, a problem she shares with a lot of women who see their status determined by the status of their husband or boyfriend.
There would have been men willing to date her - just not rich and powerful men.
