You take your chances with McDonalds or any other fast food place - if the particular restaurant is decent quality, keeps its kitchen equuipment clean and the burgers haven't been sitting under a heat lamp for too long, the Quarter Pounder, single or double, is fine. It's amazing how different the same burger can taste at different McDonalds franchises.

Personally, I go with an In-N-Out Double Double, protein style, when I need a burger. All the beef, none of the bread, and the quality is more consistent across restaurants.

Very true about differences in quality depending on who manages the place. The McD’s closest to me is just off the interstate and it is never as good as the neighborhood one a little further away in the opposite direction. The one on the interstate also charges more for the same items, and they screw up the order in some way nearly half the time.
