Steelers rookie faces felony charges after police chase through Pittsburgh's South Side

PITTSBURGH — A Steelers rookie was arrested early Sunday morning after police said he led officers on a chase through Pittsburgh's South Side and crashed into several parked cars.

Channel 11 News obtained the criminal complaint against Alameda Ta’amu, a fourth-round draft pick from the University of Washington. The rookie nose tackle has been inactive for each of the Steelers' five regular season games.

The criminal complaint says police spotted a 2006 Lincoln Navigator going the wrong way on Fort Pitt Boulevard early Sunday morning, when the driver then crossed the Smithfield Street bridge and ran a red light as he turned onto East Carson Street. Police say the driver then crossed into opposing traffic, driving on the wrong side of the street for seven blocks, to pass several cars at a time on East Carson Street.

The criminal complaint said one officer dressed in full uniform yelled, “Police! Stop the vehicle.” That officer then said the driver, later identified as Ta’amu, swerved toward him and nearly ran him over. Two other officers said they also spotted the car and drewtheir guns as the Navigator came at them, but neither of them fired “due to the large number of pedestrians and motorists on the sidewalks and roadway.”

Sounds like the start to the remake of The Longest Yard.

Sad to say, in the past the Rooneys would not have tolerated this felonious behavior. He’d be on the waiver wire faster than you could say “bail bond”.

But now they are totally in the Obama tank, and likely don’t want to be accused of RAAAAAACISM. (that or the CBA no longer lets you cut a guy until he’s convicted)

He might be going to the place where tight ends become wide receivers.

Another fine off the field product from the University of Washington's so-called football program.

Echoes of Jeremy Stevens.

"I am a Steelers and Vikings fan, and I say cancel the contract and fire his butt! Don’t need that kind of crap. this dude needs to find out about the real world."

Why? This is typical Steeler behavior.

Just ask Ben Roethlisberger.

NOT typical Steelers behavior hater! :-) Ben at least had a career to back him up, made him worth keeping. Also, none of the allegations were proven, and he has turned his life around. Got married to a nice lady, turned back to God.
This rookie is uproven and stupid, get rid of him! If another team wants to take that chance on him, go for it. Who is your favorite team? you can have him!

"Ben at least had a career to back him up, made him worth keeping."

So it is his lack of a career that is the problem?

Come on, everyone knows the Steelers are thugs. They thrive on it. They hate the Ravens because they have copied their image. Ben's problem was his actions did not take place in Pittsburgh where Rooney could get his cleanup guy to make it go away.

I guess you are right about this guy in that his lack of playing time makes him unworthy of Rooney getting this swept under the rug.

I know a guy who owned an appliance store back in the 70’s, and a Steelers player owed him a sizeable amount of money for home entertainment equipment.

After trying unsuccessfully to collect on it for some time he got word to the Rooneys. Not only did they make sure the bill got paid THAT DAY, but this player got his marching papers soon afterwards.

And any player engaged in a violent act would not have even had that much slack cut to him.

At one time they were very concerned about the community and how the team was perceived. That has changed, be that due to political correctness, collective bargaining, or competitive pressures (i.e. the Bengals and Ravens)

You are right. Roony's have a lot of power and use it frequently.

I used to live not too far from Pittsburgh. There are laws and then there are rules for the Steeler players. The team knows that if a player gets in trouble, a Rooney needs to be notified before the police.

The Roonys are thugs. It is one of the reasons why Romney has a snowball's chance in hell of winning PA. The vote will go the way the Roonys want it to go in the greater Pittsburgh area and they are BIG Obama supporters. They will make sure that O gets what he needs to win PA.

I don't know about that. The Rooneys covered up for Ernie Holmes' incident pretty well in 1973. He then went on to win 2 Super Bowl rings as part of their famed Steel Curtain front four before eating himself out of the league.

Shooting at police helicopters? Ok.
Showing up for training camp overweight? Unacceptable.
