Do you remember what the wind speeds were earlier this year when the Maryland area lost their electricity for a week or so?
I’m not discounting 75 mph winds but it just doesn’t seem like a kicker to me. We’ll get those as a good storm, can’t think of it as that destructive.

So, this storm makes a sharp left turn and comes ashore in Delaware ~ the home state of the evil Senator Biden, and cruises West to smack up against Washington DC.
At that point the storm makes a 90 degree right turn!
What's not to like?

The potential problem with Sandy is going to be the duration. Here in central PA where I am, they are forecasting at least two days of heavy rains and sustained tropical storm force winds with higher gusts. That’s going to topple a lot of trees resulting in lots of power outages and lots of flooding and road closures like what we had during Irene followed by Lee but worse as it’s going to effect a much larger area.

I ‘ve been in the path of real storms like katrina. Obama and the media are trying to fix the election with this October surprise. the media calls it the storm of the century(that is terrorism). the media and Obama are terrorizing the American people with this bs so they can fix the election for Obama and so take away our freedom, our livelihood. I lived through Katrina which had a 41 foot high storm surge, 175 mph winds, a storm surge is a dome of water 41 feet high. In many parts of Eastern LA there was 23 feet of standing water.

This is sandy is nothing compared to Katrina but they are calling sandy the storm of the century.
NOAA are the ones who get the “data” that say it is even 75 mph winds which make it a hurricane. funny how it is just barely over the limit to make it a hurricane huh and at the height of an election, to cover for bengazi gate, funny huh?

I’ve been checking the various blogs (NOAA, AccuWeather, GLSC, Joe Bastardi and Henry Margusity—along with a few “FB” pages) and everyone is pretty much on the same page. It will be bad. Real bad. The pressure is projected to be 944mb at land fall (a record low).
Now here is my unprofessional opinion...we had such warm weather last week (warm nights) that too many leaves are on the trees. If any snow, branches will snap. If heavy, torrential rain (SW PA is at 4-6 inches) coupled with high winds (we are in the 50-60 range) then limbs will also snap and leaves will clog everything from gutters & downspouts to storm sewers to creeks & streams. I fear power outages are inevitable. As you might remember from my rantings on the morning threads, we lose power several times a year (mostly less than a day at a time) but this one may beat our four & a half day Mother’s Day microburst record outage. There is one particularly ominous map which shows ALL of PA as “highly likely to lose power” (for 7-9 days). Hope they are wrong but my instincts say other wise.

I live in the path and this storm It's combined with a nor'easter crashing into it, and can cause a tremendous amount of damage, and human suffering, so I'm taking some serious precautions.

Hi Greg...just checking in. Got some non perishables after work, a couple more cases of bottles water and got batteries. Saw the NOAA hand crank radio @Target...$48 and change. Will get one...but couldn’t afford today. Having hours cut is making me even more practical.
Our Wally World and Big Bird both were as picked over as expected. Bread aisle was empty, had to search hang tags in toy dept at WalMart for my d cell batteries. Bottles water in short supply both places. Well see what the next couple of days brings....
