That is hilarious! It is the first laugh I have had about the storm here in NJ.

There is a children’s church song been around a long time about the foolish man who built his house upon the sand and the rains came down and the floods came up and the house on the sand went smash. The wise man built his house upon the rock.... and the house on the rock stood fast.

Yes, and it has been stuck in my head all day. :-)

And “Don’t build your house on the sandy land. Don’t build it too near the shore . . .” is also running through my head. Not that these songs offer any comfort to those whose lives have been uprooted. And that is where God comes in.

Certainly when I learned the song as a child I didn’t know or understand that God was speaking metaphorically. After Ike hit Galveston and Sandy hit the East coast I sometimes think he also meant it literally.

It is true either way. Now I have all kinds of songs running through my head with words such as Rock and Foundation in them. :)

“I am reminded of the folks in another of our home towns and how they reacted after the tornado that destroyed so much of Tuscaloosa last year. The people who lost houses or stuff were just so happy to be alive. It is very humbling when you see destruction of such magnitude.”

i agree it is humbling. most folks who died in this hurricane were unlucky or made poor decisions. they should be alive. they had plenty of warning to get safe. a tornada hits with little or no warning and that, i believe, makes folks more gratiful to be alive afterwards. plus i think flyover country has a different mindset about these things than northeasterners in general.
