Well, with

1) the right Constitution (should be the same as the U.S. Constitution, the greatest political document in history),

2) the free market allow to run domestically and internationally without government interference, and

3) (most difficult at least at first) an effective deterrent and defense against foreign invasion,

it might work. Alaska's a big state but no a lot of areas that are livable.

A mailing I received on Wednesday (I assume it is permissible to copy and reprint it here):

Throughout successive regimes in Washington, the Texas Nationalist Movement has fought for the freedom and independence of Texas.

It is guaranteed to us in the 10th Amendment to the US Constitution, reinforced in Article 1 Section 1 of the Texas Constitution, secured in Article 1 Section 2 of the same Constitution and, more than all of those, it is a guaranteed right on the level of freedom of speech, freedom of religion and the right to bear arms. Our freedom and independence are sacred to Texans.

Indeed, Article 1 Section 1 ends with the words, “the perpetuity of union depends on the right of local self-government unimpaired to all the states.”

This presidential election serves as a clear signal from the rest of the Union to Texas - we do not care for your right of local self-government and we do not share your values.

I am reminded of the line from the Texas Declaration of Independence that states, “We are, therefore, forced to the melancholy conclusion, that the Mexican people have acquiesced in the destruction of their liberty, and the substitution therfor of a military government; that they are unfit to be free, and incapable of self government.”

Tonight, the Union seceded from Texas.

While the alternative candidate could not have alone saved the United States from the looming economic disaster nor could he single-handedly have repaired the damage to our liberties and the Constitution which is the sole thread holding this union together, his opponent represented a descent into the final destruction of the republican form of government envisioned by the Founders of the United States and Texas.

With this, Texas cannot abide.

I again, as I have done for many years, issue the call to all Texans who love liberty to rally with the Texas Nationalist Movement to erect a bulwark against the escape from freedom that has taken hold in the rest of the states. It is our duty to stand tall and become the example of what a free and independent people can be.

I urge all Texans to stand with us as together as we follow the examples of the heroes of 1836 and declare that Texas is and forever will be free and independent.

You can declare your independence at http://www.texasnationalist.com.
