It gets hard like rock without oxygen .
You are better off storing in plastic bottles with a screw on cap . I keep mine in gallon jugs that Arizona ice tea comes in as they are pretty heavy duty and you can get almost a 5lb bag in them .

Oxygen absorbers in sugar make it rock hard. they are not needed per LDS staff and other sources i read.
