At the risk of being arrested by the PC police, I will speculate that women are constantly comparing themselves physically to other women — they are more body-conscious than men by a long shot. So women are doing this to either confirm they look better than other women or to see if other women look better than them.
Yep. Some survey I saw not too long ago asked men and women to rate their looks as (1)more or less average, (2)worse than average or (3)better than average.
Among men, 80% picked average, 10% worse and 10% better. Among women, 10% picked average, 80% worse and 10% better.
It isn't reality, it is perception. Much like the American Idol crowd voting for Obama because they think he cares more about people like them. If you want somebody to care for you, hire a private nurse or get a dog.
