Check out the prices for raw phones (no plans) on ebay and you can see this We've reached the commoditization stage of the smartphone and tablet markets. Prices all go down from here. It will be interesting to see if the Apple pony can learn a new trick without it's visionary. Not a good time to invest in Apple IMO.
