Our country has voted itself into a unsustainable situation.

“Charity is no part of the legislative duty of the government.”

“With respect to the words general welfare, I have always regarded them as qualified by the detail of powers connected with them. To take them in a literal and unlimited sense would be a metamorphosis of the Constitution into a character which there is a host of proofs was not contemplated by its creators.”

“I cannot undertake to lay my finger on that article of the Constitution which granted a right to Congress of expending, on the objects of benevolence, the money of their constituents.”

— James Madison, the father of the U.S. Constitution

"Could you explain the imprisonment aspect of your statement. Also the loss of freedom for retirees."

If you are dependent on the federal government for your retirement income, you are a prisoner of the federal government. No check, no freedom. You also have a vested interest in maintaining this scam as you are totally dependent upon it. This means you don't really have a vote. This doesn't apply to everyone because some folks actually have sufficient means to live without the feds "help".

For most, unfortunately, after retirement, the federal government owns you. This system is a fraud and needs to be phased out over a forty year time span if people are truly going to ever be in charge of their lives ever again in this country.

1. Keep those currently on it eligible until they die.

2. Over the next four years, wean out of the program everyone who never paid into it.

3. Offer a one-time buyout to the baby boomers within 10 years of retirement sufficiently attractive to cut their numbers in half as future social security recipients. This would pay for itself over the next twenty years and lower dramatically the burden on those who are working to support the failed system.

4. Reduce benefit amounts to those who refuse the buyouts as well as those within 20 years of retirement.

5. The program would be ended for those 20 years from retirement. Their payments would continue, but decrease as the number of recipients decline. Basically, they have time to generate a retirement plan that they own, not the government. In addition, their incomes would rise as the taxes taken from them declines.

The current system only helps those who want control over you, not you. Phase it out and get rid of it.
