Airport scan finds sword in cane

WASHINGTON, - The Transportation Security Administration said a woman didn't know her cane contained a sword until she went through an X-ray machine at a Washington airport.

The TSA said the machine picked up something strange about the woman's cane Monday at Washington Dulles International Airport and officers discovered the knob unscrewed to reveal a sword, WUSA-TV, Washington, reported Thursday.

TSA officials said the woman had purchased the cane at an antique store and was unaware of the concealed weapon. She was allowed to continue on to her flight -- without the cane.

"At 37,000 feet, knocking out a window would be more devastating then trying to swing a sword."

Completely debunked on Myth Busters. If, on the other hand, you knock out the airplane's window with a sizable bomb, the resulting hole could be a problem.

Well that is one less nightmare I will have. Now I have to get the Obama third term out of my head and I’ll be able to sleep again.

Sword Ping!

Nice sword-cane. There really ought to be a way they could allow people to ship items home rather than just forfeit them. I lost a Leatherman tool that way.

It’s a sap; those leather covered balls are solid lead.

But.... I suppose you COULD use it for... uh... entertainment, alone or with a friend.

There is a way to ship stuff home. They just usually won’t tell you about it. There’s usually a shipping box in the TSA area, kinda like Fed Ex except about 3x the price.

From my days in scouting, a hiking staff, stick, pole what have you, was a valued tool and weapon. Many a snake aka Charlie no shoulders, was flipped off the trail or killed with said stick. Add then a career of stomp and drag riot control with a 36 inch baton, PR-24’s etc and yes a cane or broomstick is a viable self defense thang indeed !

Uniformed, static security such as TSA wannabes is pure friggin whitewash and real terrorists know it. They will be back when and where they want.

Me , I’m retired military, I fly space A overseas, general aviation or company aircraft in the states or drive to my destinations.

If TSA is involved with my trip security I will walk home......they are a joke.

Damn thieves. I bet the TSA union goons divide all the booty they steal (and the loose change that people leave that adds up).

No, they sell some of it to Pennsylvania, which then auctions it off for a profit. When I found out about it, I did some digging and found the government email address of the official in charge of PA's program (not too hard to do). He was indignant that I asked him why PA was acting as TSA's fence, and after a couple of nasty exchanges, he blew me off.

Pa. starts online TSA Surplus auction

Like everything else in government, it's a damned racket!

Ah so the greedy government bosses won’t even let the poor rank and file goons have it. The bastards!

I don’t know why I’ve never though of this before.

The only thing the government is good at, graft and racketeering. Cha-ching.

How about the link above for the cold steel sword cane?
