Truckin' & Stylin'. Shooting Stars. Timeless Elders. Based on where you live, how much money you make and where you shop, you may be classified into one of these categories by one of the country's largest data brokers.
(snip, excerpt required)
Married Sophisticates: You're in your late 20s or early 30s, recently married and likely have a household income between $50,000 and $100,000. You probably own a home, most likely in an upscale suburban neighborhood. You're a fan of "green and trendy cars," shop at Banana Republic and The Gap and are a loyal Netflix Inc. subscriber.
Truckin' & Stylin': You're in your 30s or 40s, live in a rural town and earn a moderate income. You may be married, but you don't have any children. You shop at stores like Wal-mart and AutoZone and enjoy watching NASCAR and classic shows on TV Land.
Collegiate Crowd: Between 18 and 23 years old, you're single and highly mobile. You're likely a renter and probably live in a college town. You buy clothes from American Eagle and Express Inc. and are a frequent liquor store patron. Your TV is tuned to Family Guy and you probably have copies of Rolling Stone and Us Weekly lying around.
Shooting Stars: You're in your 30s or 40s, married without any kids. You enjoy a six-figure household income and likely have a graduate degree. You shop at stores like Ann Taylor and Sephora, read magazines like Men's Health and Real Simple and use the web to check your stock investments and make travel plans. (snip)

Made me realize just how much the author, and maybe marketers in general, are out of touch with America. There are a bunch more catagories at the article, and I don't come close to any of them. Nor does anyone that I know...

I work with these people. They are the most idiotic and shallow people on earth.
I don’t see Old Cheapskate with Lots of Money’ in the list.
Jack Benny nods.
What about Virtual Galt Gulch (hunkered down till things improve while actively not supporting Zer0’s Hope and Change)?
Not a single category for people who buy primarily from ebay, Amazon, and other online sites.
Oh, and thrift stores for clothes.
Whew, I’m still evading their lists!
A household income between 50 and $100k hardly gives enough discretionary income to be a fan of "trendiness" and "green cars," as well as being a homeowner. This income range is certainly not destitute, but if not managed well, one could end up very poor--trying to keep up with the Joneses.
“shop at Banana Republic and The Gap”
Wow, I haven’t seen Banana Republic in decades.
Key is to not overbuy we didn’t break 100, raised two kids, paid off the house by 40 and the cars. It can be done but you have to pace the fun and frills.
Oh, I agree with you. I just don't think the category of "Married Sophisticates," and the description provided, says much about people who are pacing themselves.
Nope-not me-there is no category for poor, scrabbling for work, rural, slowly going galt/self-sustaining.
I don’t even know anyone who fits into the other “boxes” in the article, either...
While the wife does shop at Ann Taylor and Sephora, I got the degree, and prefer reading ballistic tables and shooting animals. Guess I must be an outlier.
Consumer?
What a vile term.
Some people see themselves as consumers...A whole lot of them in the U.S. now where all they do is consume.
While others see themselves as producers and builders instead of consumers.
I used to love BR back in the 80's, when they'd send out their Indiana Jones' style catalog, back when their stores had interesting and well-made clothing.
Today, BR is WAY too trendy and clothing seems made for effeminate males. They lost their brand.
Non of the above. This author is clueless about a large segment of the populous in flyover country.
Guess I should describe myself. Old coot, retired, drives pickup truck ( wife has SUV), live in suburbs, but lived on acreage and owned livestock for most of my life, no children (wife has one). Shops mostly online with regular visits to Lowes. Favorite stores Amazon, Cabelas, LLBean, Lands End, Orvis. Enjoys flyfishing, gardening, working on my truck and long walks on the beach(just kidding on the last one). Income comfortable and hard earned.
Didn’t see myself listed in the article.
