BRIDGETON — It started with kids looking across the street at a groundhog in the Bridgeton Midget Football parking lot on Saturday.

They crossed the street to get a closer look.

They had never seen a groundhog before.

What they didn’t count on was the groundhog chasing them back across the street to where Bridgeton Little League was playing.

Bedlam broke out.

New cartridge out, Winchester .17. Based on a .27 nail gun cartridge they have been manufacturing, it will push a 20gr to 3000fps and a 25gr to 2600fps.

Back when NJ actually allowed varment hunting with a rifle, my dad and I used a 22 hornet on these creatures. Today I would opt for a 22-250 but fortunately I don’t live anywhere near NJ now. In fact, I am not sure they even allow anyone to hunt with a rifle there now either.

We had a ground hog in the back yard for a while and he became known by the name Wilbur. One day Wilbur was nibbling on some ground cover when all of a sudden he takes off running like a mad man toward his den. To my amazement out of the sky/woods here comes this tree falling right into my back yard right where he was foraging only a split second before. I have never seen a tree just fall over before and i doubt anyone here ever has. I just wonder if Al Gore fell over would anyone hear him?

The comments to this newspaper’s story are priceless. Here’s one: “please. ground hogs are all bluster. kind of like our governor.
they will try to chase you, but it’s a bluff.
if you stop and yell at them, they’ll usually run away.”
