Normally I'd agree with that, but if the purpose was to take down Assad who is known to support terrorism, then it gets a little grey. There is a strategy that says get your enemies to fight each other. Not a strategy I'd normally advocate. But I doubt I'd lose any sleep over enemies fighting each other.
And the reason I asked the question, was the original post made it sound like "if" the weapons were Soviet it would be treason. Which didn't make any sense to me.
