You're right about the Mc part, But it was LBJ & McNamara that ordered the navy to use bombs left over from WWII to cover up for a bomb shortage that was embarasing them in the press. For decades the crew of CVA59 have suffered the blame for McNamara's mistake. This wasn't revealed until this book came out a few years ago...... ....Addendum...I should add that the book points out why the old bombs were important. Iron bombs are designed so that it takes about 45 minutes in a fire before they will explode and the fire crews know this so if they cannot put the fire out they withdraw before hand. But these old bombs were unstable and went off in 10 minutes killing all the fire crews and dastroying their equipment. Thats why this fire was so bad and so many men were lost.
