He was hysterical. But I have to go with Richard Pryor as numero uno. In his heyday he was the best of my generation. His private life was a mess but his shows were funny.

You are correct.
Here’s the thing.
Musicians record an album and then go out and tour and promote the album.
Comedians do typically an hour of material, and only when they’re ready to junk the old material and move on to a whole new hour of material do they capture and document the stuff as an “album” or a “comedy special”.
It’s no good comparing what Cook did to what the musicians did because the fundamental premises are in no ways comparable.
If you hadn’t put up this thread, I’d never have heard of him. That’s probably true of most FReepers.
