Only Dane Cook could turn a charity performance for the Boston Strong concert into a catastrophe.
For those who havent heard, Boston Strong was a music and comedy benefit concert for the victims of the Boston Marathon bombings. The lineup included Aerosmith, New Kids on the Block, and James Taylor and Carole King, as well as several comedy acts. The sold-out, six-hour concert was also livestreamed on multiple audio and video feeds for those who could not attend in person, including not just average Americans but some Boston Marathon bombing victims as well.
Imagine peoples surprise, then, when the feed cut out just as Cook took the stage to perform his comedy routine. Amid speculation as to what happened, Cook tweeted: Hey everyone sorry my set was not a part of the live stream or televised! I didn't want any of the new material to hit the airwaves yet!
Wait, so youre not livestreaming your routine at a charity concert because youre worried about losing money? Classy as always, Cook.
I could continue to comment on the tastelessness of it all, but then again, I have Twitter to do that for me. Be prepared for profanity.
And lets be honest, with Cook consistently rated as one of the worst comedians in the U.S., was livestreaming it really that much of a threat to him? Nobody is stealing his material, nor were his absolute die-hard fans going to pass on a chance to see him live anyway. And thats not to mention that much bigger names than him were completely fine with airing their pieces for the world.
Even if youre really that paranoid about losing content, then why not just do an old routine? Cooks been in the business for many years now, so it cant possibly have been that difficult to dig something up.
Instead, after volunteering his time and efforts at what should have been an amazing and inspiring act of charity, Cook just ended up with a PR nightmare on his hands.
To put it Twitter format, that was #bostonweak.
Typical liberal mind set.
I saw that online. First, the feeds were having trouble. No network chose to air it anyways. When that was fixed or was playing better then after Jimmy Buffett finished his set then out came Dane and you can hear him being introduced but then the feed goes dark and out comes a logo. The stream did not come back till Aerosmith was on stage. Dane said on Twitter that he was testing out material on stage that he didn’t want people in the viewing audience outside the arena to hear. people got mad on Twitter. Twitchy did a report on it.
The last great stand-up comedian was Steve Martin, though that now-deceased Mitch Hedburg fellow came close to greatness.
Gosh, I hope the culture can take the hit.

The horse’s ass starts one of his CDs praising the election of Obama in 2008, and praises the audience for being so cool for voting that way.
Thanks rickmichaels.
Typical liberal mind set.
And you know he is a liberal how????? I never heard him say anything political ever. And why should he give away new material. Perhaps your the liberal.
Do they have one of those “Pop Culture for Dummies” books out? I’ve never heard of this jerk.
See post 5. Is Dane your step brother or something?
Steve Martin was great and one of my favorites, but the last standup great would have to of been Sam Kinneson (before the cocaine use).
Did those “Beacause it’s...October!” ads for major league baseball/ TBS

>>the half-brother of comedian Dane Cook was sentenced to five to six years in prison by a Massachusetts judge Wednesday after he pleaded guilty to stealing millions from the boisterous entertainer...
Wikipedia:
>>Commentators in a variety of media sources have characterized Dane Cook’s humor as unfunny.Comedian Ron White has criticized Dane Cook for his lack of real material and for his inflated ego; saying “[He] does not make me laugh, at all, in any way, shape or form.” When asked about his opinion of Cook on The Howard Stern Show, comedian Nick DiPaolo said “he doesn’t make me laugh, but that doesn’t mean he’s not funny.” On Boston radio station WBCN, Dane Cook was named by radio show Toucher and Rich to a tournament of the top 16 “Worst Comedians” and, based on listener voting, was voted the “Worst Comedian” of all. In the Michigan Daily, Elie Zwiebel and co-author Jesse Bean wrote that “he’s managed to become one of the most overrated comics ever” and that his act is “boringly stagnant”.
I don’t know who Dane Cook is, nor do I know anything he’s ever done. However, I totally support his right to refuse to have his set streamed.
He volunteered his time and talent(?) for a charitable cause. He never agreed to give away his “intellectual property” to anyone with an Internet connection.
Here’s my summary of the article: “Wah wah, mean old Dane Cook won’t give us our free stuff.”
Sounds like an Andrew Dice Clay type for the Age of Obama.
A perfect definition of the word, “Arsehole.”
i listen to races/ballgames on the radio/watch online or sometimes if i can't find what i want to watch online i goto the bar if i really want to see the game/race so that's the only time i ever see TV adds
and from what you posted, i guess i didn't miss much either... 8^)
Boston Strong...sounds great. If we don’t take on the enemy and make strides to eliminate them.....Boston Strong means nothing. A mere platitude.
Dane Cook is a great person who has done a ton of great things in life. You? I don’t know.
Thank you, at least somebody else thinks so.
exactly..I haven’t run out and bought any of his CDs or seen his shows, thankfully
That was considerate, he saved the listening audience the trouble of turning the stream off themselves once they realized he was talking.
