[[Get Cuffed for Filming Police; Your Dog Gets Upset; Cop Kills Your Dog Brian Doherty|Jul. 1, 2013 7:10 pm Here’s the way it is, America: annoy a cop, even doing something perfectly legal, and he might cuff you.]]
Hell- thsi haoppened near where i live- woman was taping an accident while standign in her own yard- well away fro mthe scene- cop came told her to stop taping- she asked whyu- several times, cop got annoyed, confiscated camera, arrested woman- was later released, only to be further harrassed in the following days by cops
“Serve and protect” has been extended to “Serve and Protect AND bully whenever the feelign strikes you
Had the woman been black instead of white- no way in hell a cop would have doen that to her- buit since she was white, she had no right to stand on her own lawn and film an accident scene down hte street from her apparently (and no it wasn’t a cop i nthe accident, it was criminals trhat crashed after high speed chase)
When I lived in NE Baltimore, one evening my husband and I heard sirens coming up our normally quiet little street, we looked outside and saw a fire truck, a police car and an EMT unit stopped in front of our next door neighbors house. I have to explain that this was an older tree lined neighborhood, old, fairly large homes with big yards, in fact our neighbors house was built in 1834 and ours in the early 1920s and between our house and our neighbors, we both had big side yards so even though the neighbors house was next door it was more like two to three doors down.
We went outside and were standing on our own front porch, our house being up a steep hill and some 100+ yards from the curb, to see what was going on, not only because we wanted to know what was going on but also because our neighbors were our friends and we were concerned - had there been a fire, a break in, an illness or accident?
We were not asking any questions of any of the responders or interfering with them in any way however, we were not yelling over to our neighbors even as we saw the husband coming out of his house on a gurney and being loaded into the ambulance, we were not yelling anything to anyone, we were not taking pictures, we were not doing anything but standing on our own front porch, which we never left, were just quietly watching.
Pretty soon a fireman (I think he was a captain) walked up the street toward us and started yelling at us saying, Theres nothing to see, you need to mind your own business and GO BACK INSIDE! GO BACK INSIDE YOUR HOUSE NOW!
My wimpy husband (now ex-husband) thought we should do what he said, but I being the anti-authoritarian I am, asked the fireman, Under what authority are you ordering me to leave my own front porch and ordering me to go inside? What law am I breaking?
He then got even madder and started walking up the sidewalk and up the steps toward my house said, Listen little lady, I told you to go inside now or Ill have one of those police officers arrest you.
I stood my ground and with hands on hips said, Id like to see you try. To which he got even angrier and told me something to the effect that was illegal not to obey and to mouth off to a fireman.
In all fairness a cop, a black cop BTW did come walking up but he said to the fireman, For Gods sake, chill out dude. The cop then smiled and said to me, Your neighbor is OK, he just has the flu and he passed out but hes fine. You have a nice evening maam and walked away and evidently said something to the fire captain which I couldnt hear but didnt make him all too happy as he stormed away and got back into the fire truck.
Then before the ambulance left, my neighbor came up to us and confirmed what the cop said, that her husband had passed out when trying to get out of bed, had probably gotten dehydrated so they were taking him to the hospital as a precaution and to give him some IV fluids and she asked me (as I had a key to their house) to come over and walk and feed their dog if they didnt come back within a few hours and that shed call me when they got back home.
I wasnt doing anything illegal unless being a concerned citizen and neighbor while standing on my own property is against the law. Thankfully the black cop knew and understood that, the white fireman, not so much.
