As the live chatting occurs on this thread progresses, is there a way to ‘auto-refresh’ the thread so that I don’t have to keep clicking ‘last post’ and when that doesn’t work, I have to click the ‘1900-1950’ (for example) hypertext, then choose ‘last post’.

Just hit the “F5” key. That will reload the page and keep your place.
Yes. At the top of our screen where the website address is in the url bar, there is a partial circle with an arrow on the end. Hit that and it refreshes your page.
Just make a simple post before you walk away thats what I do.
