I'd have to agree that stubby was some kind of boston terrier mutt. I have an Amstaff who loves everyone--especially wants to meet and greet young women. Good boy. here's a more verified bull terrier:

Appears to be a different breed. The skull is shorter and the cranium more tapered. The nose is not convex as in the bull terrier. The eyes look a bit different, the ears are certainly different.

Some pits are passed of as bull terriers but they are two separate species. Pits have numerous names which change as their reputation follows them.
