The show is about five people who were fortunate in business, and now they have a reality show.

FWIW, the show isn't about 5 people who were fortunate in business. It's a show about a family who lived the American dream and built a highly successful business through hard work and perseverance.

If you're interested, you can read about the real Robertsons in an article published in the Christian Chronicle. (See: Faith, family and ducks: Behind the scenes of 'Duck Dynasty')

Contrary to what some here say and believe, the Robertsons aren't the buffoons portrayed on the show.

I was responding to your first question. As to why should you watch the show, well that is a personal decision.

I never watched the Sara Palin show either, and didn’t see an episode of DD until a couple of months ago. I don’t much TV but it is entertaining and is safe to watch with the kids.

Hey, I've got nothing against people watching these shows if they want to. I just don't get the attraction. A show about the lives of some apparently very good people who run a business. Okay...if they shaved their beards and affected Yankee accents, would people still watch them?

I do watch some reality shows like "Pawn Stars." But I watch it for the business and interest in old and odd objects reason. A show just about the Harrison family would be just as unattractive to me.

“Pawn Stars” stars don’t even work in the pawn shop any more, just the TV show.

My wife and I have been pretty successful. But I don’t think you’d care to watch about a reality show about how we did it. For that matter, neither would I.

What is the attraction for you to join in a discussion over a show about how other people live their lives?

Okay...if they shaved their beards and affected Yankee accents, would people still watch them?

They sure would. A Yankee stand-up comedian grew a beard, cut off the sleeves of his shirts and affected a southern accent and seems to have made a pretty good living from it. (Larry the Cable Guy)

The average viewer of the show having an I.Q equal to one the duck decoys I can understand it’s popularity

LOL! All you need to know about this show is that they sell Duck Dynasty T-Shirts at WalMart. Haha. I can just picture the motorized carts lining up at the XXXXXXXL's now. ;p

One: this is a public forum, and I have the right to voice an opinion about anything posted here whether you like it or not.
Two: I'm genuinely interested in what attraction people see in a show about what appears to be a good, but relatively uninteresting American family. But since the males all have beards and are southern, is it their business and their personal habits people watch it for, or is it the beards and the southern accents? Like I said, would a similar show about a bunch of Yankees with no beards and Wisconsin accents draw many viewers? I doubt it.

(But maybe I'm wrong about that. Maybe a show about a Norwegian family who run a lutefisk and lefse business would draw millions. Never can tell. Think of all the Ole and Lena jokes that could be told.)

Technically speaking, it's a privately-owned/moderated forum that is open to the public as long as they follow the rules established by the site's owner. Break the rules, or even just piss off the owner and you will be summarily bounced.

As far as having the 'right' to voice an opinion, the 1st Amendment only applies to the government.

Two: I'm genuinely interested in what attraction people see in a show about what appears to be a good, but relatively uninteresting American family.

Uninteresting only by your narrow definition of the word.

But since the males all have beards and are southern, is it their business and their personal habits people watch it for, or is it the beards and the southern accents? Like I said, would a similar show about a bunch of Yankees with no beards and Wisconsin accents draw many viewers? I doubt it.

Neither. It's the inter-personal relationship(s) they share. That's the quality of all 'reality' shows, and all fictional shows in general.

It's the initiation of, and resolution to, conflicts between people that drives all visual entertainment media, such as TV & movies. (Antiques Roadshow, notwithstanding)

So, would a show about clean-shaven men with Wisconsin accents succeed? It would if the situation occurring between the cast-members were entertaining on some level.

Like popular music, these people strike a chord (pun, intended) with a wide cross-section of the American viewing public.

As Ted Nugent said in one episode of his 'reality' show, 'Surviving Nugent', to a contestant who wanted to make it big in the entertainment industry, "It's not a white-thang. It's not a black-thang. It's a green-thang. When you have what the world wants, the world will give you their green."

Out of curiosity, what sort of entertainment to you have in your life? What do you do for fun?

Well, bless your heart. You apparently didn’t learn to live that southern rural rule that goes, “if you can’t say something nice about someone, don’t say anything at all.” One can always find something wrong with something or someone. That’s easy. But it takes more than that to gain enough insight to find the good in things and people. Instead of just changing the channel and watching something else to your liking and then refraining from speaking badly about the Duck Dynasty show on this forum, you manage to take the low road and reflect poorly upon yourself by taking the time to bad-mouth what so many other people like. We get the fact that you don’t like Duck Dynasty. But a record number of cable watchers like it just fine.

Go rain on someone else’s parade.

If I may, let me nominate you for the FR “Chain Jerker of the Day” Award.

You have managed to accuse many of your fellow Conservative FReepers as having Low I.Q.’s simply because they enjoy a TV Show, yes a TV Show, that celebrates what most think are Conservative Values.

Better yet, those same people expressed their views on the Internet’s most Conservative Website, oh the horror!

Well, if you think most of us are so Stupid, why then associate with us? Is that how you treat other FReepers that disagree with you on the many topics discussed here?

After all, there are Lawyers, Airline Pilots, Ex Career Military, Doctors, successful Businessmen and Businesswomen posting here all the time. That is a heck of a lot of accomplishments from such a Low I.Q. bunch of folks.

Please understand, the rebuke of your original Post is because you made an unfounded accusation based on your OPINION of a TV Show and the people that find it entertaining, if not out of the norm of the usual crap being fed to the masses. People are only reacting to that.

BTW - Did you think the comment Willie’s Brother made after he was kicked out of the Trump Hotel in New York was scripted by some Hollywood Elite Producer?

After he was treated in a less than positive way, he just laughed it off and said he was “Facially Profiled”. Oprah the Racebaiter doesn’t have the class that that no account bearded Hillbilly has in his pinky finger. That is but one example of why people have gravitated to the Robertson Clan. It has nothing to do with Low I.Q.’s

If you can’t appreciate the humor of being on either the dissemination or receiving end of a WMD fart in a car you probably wouldn’t enjoy it.

After I finish my Dinner I will look back on the Thread to see what “Vulgar and Obscene Comments” were made. I do not condone such behavior, yet I am sure that I have made my share of those type of comments over the years. Sometimes you hit a nerve, and it appears you did my FRiend.

I take it that you are feeling victimized (or righteous), yet it appears it was your blanket statement attacking the intelligence of those here who enjoy some light entertainment with a Conservative theme attached to it that sparked the response.

I explained the rationale. I am as amazed as anyone that your comment elicited so many rebukes. The fact that I jumped into the fray only shows my belief that you deserve the Award I mentioned.

Now, I will go enjoy a nice Cold Beer and a lovely meal.

It is a reasonable assumption that anyone who watches a "reality" show, does have lower than average IQ. This is due to the fact that said viewer is being asked to believe that they are actually viewing someone's real life, spontaneous and unscripted. That requires an IQ lower than room temperature. And if you don't believe the show is unscripted, why watch?

Now, it is possible to watch some scripted "reality" shows for other reasons. You can watch "Toy Hunter" for nostalgia, or "Oddities" out of the curiosity of seeing some unusual objects. Kids might like Billy the Exterminator. Fair enough.
But watching a solely story based "reality" show requires near idiocy.
