A handful of young men cautiously enter the store before heading downstairs.
They do a little shopping, calling out to a clerk who never shows up. After doing a little mental math, the guys decide to pay for sunglasses and batteries...
At around 7 on a Sunday, the shopping mall is still open, including the pharmacy and grocery store on either side. But Buddy's Small Lots was closed, although you wouldn't know it because the lock on the door had malfunctioned.
The system also leaves most of the lights on, so employees admit it pretty much looks open.

Note that the honest visitor was what some around here euphemistically call “Amish”. This sort of stuff rarely makes the news. Many choose not to participate in the subculture, despite the influences from the outside.
Good post to read early in the day. So much depressing news to ingest these days, it is depressing at times.
There does seem to be some uplifting news this morning, including the post that NYPD have designated mosques as terrors organizations.
God is good!
Good news indeed.
See.....character, not color/not race.
I rest my case.
Good on them!!
What’s amazing that this *is* news.
Yes, character, not race. I was saying this last night on that show, “Extreme weight loss”. This charming “amish” lady who was the subject of the program had two wonderful parents (yes I said two), and I said to myself “character, not color”. We need to find more of these great people to restore our faith in humanity.
Good character. Or they thought it was a sting, or they thought the burglar just left, forgot to lock up, and they didn’t want to explain if some cop wandered in, or...they figured the cameras were rolling.
I’m city born and bred so I never assume good character. It’s the Urban Corollary to Occam’s.
In before the FR bigots print their names or note the minority status of these men.
There are plenty of people left with good character. Most of the news coverage and attention is devoted to those who lack character.
We can lose our faith in many things, but we should not lose our faith in all of humanity. There are still many good people and I have to remind myself of that each day.

It’s really depressing that honesty is front page news in this country.
The "Amish" dig was originally meant more as an insult to the media than urban blacks. It was meant to point out how the liberal media would bend over backwards not to reveal the race of young urban black perps in their reporting, but had no problem in any other crime story saying a "white male". An example: "Hmmm, this story says three perps named Deshawn, Jamal, and Lamont were arrested for assaulting someone in Detroit and stealing their Air Jordan's. Story doesn't say so I guess they were Amish..."
But I would agree that it has become a bit overused and often just to refer to urban blacks in general...
Exactly so. “White male” is notable. The media never refers to them as “Black male”.
“See.....character, not color/not race.”
Correct.
Shocking! Someone isn’t a selfish crook!
The "Amish" dig was entirely aimed at the media and their willingness to be an accessory after the fact by concealing the descriptions of violent perps from a public unable to protect its self without those descriptions.
That is a personal problem, a part of who you are, not a result of growing up in a city.
That’s a pretty snarky remark, but that’s YOUR personal problem.
