I love, love, love Free Republic. Here comes the big but.
My fertile mind | 9/10/2013 | Me

The vast majority of stories posted here that support conservative positions or trash liberals/progressives are from publications that only conservative minded people read. It makes FR kind of an echo chamber, in that, no or very few minds will be changed unless the articles posted here start showing up in the popular media of big city newspapers and network television. I wish it was different, but alas, it isn't

I have a solution for you.

Open “Democratic Underground” in one window, and “Free Republic” in another!

Voila, your “perfect” balance. (/s)

It makes FR kind of an echo chamber, in that, no or very few minds will be changed unless the articles posted here start showing up in the popular media of big city newspapers and network television.

But the point of FR is to be a sort of "echo chamber". We come here to find companionship in like-minded people and, more than a little, to argue the finer points of conservatism as we each see it.

We won't change minds by posting more mainstream articles. But, by posting what we think are the best of the conservative articles, we may just provide the inspiration [and the intellectual ammo] to let a FReeper somewhere influence someone else.

It is frustrating sometimes when you see something that hits an issue so well only to find out it’s from Townhall and wont be seen by many people.

But that’s what we are for. We have to be the news for friends and family. Pass that blog post along! You will help make it reach more people than MSNBC has.

Yes, there many articles from MSM posted here, but it is my observation that most of them are liberal in content and are posted to expose the biases these media people entertain. I said in my original post that articles that SUPPORT conservatives are NOT found in the MSM.

I appreciate your efforts !
They provoke thought, which leads to action !
Also , many media commentators review these boards prior to broadcast
so there is media effect , ...without the recognition !

Somewhat agree.

I see a fair number of Barf alerts and several Freepers with a strong constitution post comments from places like DU and HuffPost. I've been forcing myself to watch CNN and PMSNBC some - I get tired of the blathering talking heads on Fox News (The Five, BO, same-old-stuff-Sean).

CNN is on about every TV in every airport. Lately they seem to be hosting interviews with people willing to criticize ObaMao with factual analysis. Interesting times...

I don’t see what that has to do with a big-arsed wookie but ...

There is plenty of liberal carp posted here on FR, just count the number of threads with “barf alert” and its variants in the title. I don’t want to see a 50/50 mix or some sort of eclectic balance - there are other places for that.

And there is plenty of opposing discussion and violent agreement daily.

Now we do tend to eat our young and I think there needs to be a healthy discussion about bloggers and supporting at least some of them with clicks. After all, the MSM demands it for their material. But I do understand the flip side.
