My second VANITY of the day: Android add for credit cards that isn't Square?
Self | 9-30-2013 | Self

I need to accept credit cards with my Android phone.

Don't want to use Square because they discriminate against firearms and ammunition purchases. I need to know what alternative apps are available. Open to suggestion...

You should check out Intuit. I don’t know for sure if their policies are different, but they are one of the competitive players in the area of credit card processing, and they support Android. They also integrate with QuickBooks.

I don’t have first hand experience,

I used to work in the field,

Google for “Android App Credit Card Merchant Processing” and you’ll come up with industry websites that compare various CC processors Android Apps.

http://www.practicalecommerce.com/articles/2497-11-Credit-Card-Apps-Swipers-for-iPhone-Android-and-BlackBerry

http://www.businessnewsdaily.com/2490-mobile-credit-card-processing-services.html

http://www.creditcardprocessing.net/?vn=bm&a=148&c=2220&s1=34200054&ls=g

Be aware that alot of the Google top results are due to sneaky SEO work, and most of these websites are really paid advertisements for the CC processors.

Avoid PayPal. I have had a business account with them for years and have set up online processing for other companies. In my opinion, I would prefer almost anyone over them. I never use them any more even though I still have an account.

Per another posting: Avoid any app that uses Authorize.net for merchant processing. The company’s principals were big Obama supporters, and the company recently dropped a gun store with no notice.

I’d appreciate additional advice on this, if you have more ideas. What’s wrong with Paypal?

I’m looking to add this type of device to my business as well. I’ve narrowed it down to Intuit and the bank where I do my business banking. It may be worth looking into local banks and see what programs/devices they offer for mobile credit card processing.

Paypal, Google, Authorize.net, any Bank of America, Wells Fargo related banks all will not process online guns sales.

If you haven’t been banned yet, you will be soon. This is the backdoor gun control that is going on in this country.

Most processors support iphone / android scanning these days.

Do not do business with these companies...the problem is most people don’t know about their policies and / or they are too lazy to move their company / personal accounts away from these businesses.

Paypal works but they do things that turn off customers, are very intursive and have had security issues.

Where I have seen customers turned off is when they strongly encourage anyone paying through Paypal to have an account. Immagine other merchant services collecting your customer data every time they made a purchase. Then, from my experience with ebay (which owns Paypal), they take a buyer beware approach to problems with purchases. Purchases through Paypal are treated more like cash advances.

I installed Paypal along with other merchant services on the website of a mid-size company that did a lot of online sales. The owner did away with Paypal and told me none of his customers wanted it.

They also want to be able to access at least one of your bank accounts to TAKE money out. Other merchants don’t ask to take money out to “fund” your account with them.

I was among a huge number of Paypal customers who had their account compromised and money pulled from their thrird-party bank account. Paypal did correct this, but not without wasting my time and creating an inconvenience.

Lastly, Paypal did a promotion with GreenDot to get people to try it out. When the deal was not honored they simply blamed Greendot with which I had no ongoing business relationship. On the principle of the matter (it was like $5 or $10 dollars or so as I recall), Paypal wasted a couple hours of time from my multiple calls and emails and then refused to honor the terms of the promotion that they sent to me unsolicited.

I keep an account with them open just in case I may need to make a purchase, but over the past few years I have never needed it. I started to renew my debit card with them a few weeks ago and found they still have the same dismal customer service that made me quit using them.

That company needs a major overhaul for me to ever consider using their services again.
