I don’t understand VW’s position, but I do understand how the TN workers feel. Lived there for years, still have a home there. These people remember the manufacturing jobs going overseas and taking away their parents’ middle class lifestyles. They remember the unions part in that and they remember that the unions had nothing for them afterwards. There were several “Hostess” type actions and the industries just walked away.
Outside of Memphis and some of Knoxville, there is a strong independent streak in the people.
Individuals? We don’t need no steenkin’ individuals. Unions are just another word for communist workers. “Collective” bargaining units.
