Yea, hitting a QB with a helmet is one thing but tackling a runner trying to get to the marker is another. If the QB decides to run, he’s a runner and will get treated as one. In the modern game, the position of QB has evolved to be more of a skill position, reading defenses and creating misdirection, not a position that is supposed to be taking abuse on every snap. Telling defenses that they can’t treat a running QB like they hit a fullback is a bleeping joke. Here’s an idea, telling the QB that if you run, you can’t bitch about getting your knee splintered. If you stay behind the LOS, you get the benefit of better protection.
Defenders don’t mind rules, just keep one set and give them the benefit of the doubt.
