I had never heard of an HOA when I bought my current home. When I move that will be one of the first requirements for my new homer. No neighborhood Nazi organizations.
That happened to my parents.
Sorry to hear it. Vote the worthless SOBs out the next chance you get, and volunteer yourself. That’s your best solution.
And just whose fault is that? Why don't you run yourself? It sounds like you would be a voice of sanity on your board. The other homeowners ought to love you.
That was the first thing we told our realtor last two times I moved. If it has an HOA, we didn't want to see it.
It’s in the covenants in the deeds on the property.
People need to read the deeds before they buy.
It’s a contract. If you don’t like the terms, don’t buy
Rule of law, contracts, property rights. It’s the entire basis of our country.
They might buy it, but they don’t own it
a commune?
What on Earth are you talking about? A commune?
If you are speaking of our community association it is you who is smoking dope, good sir.
We are a community of fairly wealthy, successful individuals with the resources to own a home in a community with 24-7 full time on the ground security, landscaped and “manicured” public areas, etc. etc. There is nothing “communal” about it any more than the county owning the road facing your house. Does that make your county a “commune”?
And what do you think will happen to you and your property if you decide that you aren’t going to pay taxes to the “commune” any longer?
Hint: I think you’ll find that the county has far greater coercive power than any HOA.
If the HOA is the real owner of the house, then that would be a probably.
It should be voluntary for those buying the house, they should be asked “wanna join or not?”
Your comments have been increasingly divorced from reality.
As of now, I have to say that I have no idea what you are talking about.
As far as I am concerned in my community if a new buyer doesn’t want to:
-use the roads, directly or indirectly
-have electrical power and water to his house
-have landline telephone service
-avail security services apparently provided against his will
Then he can go somewhere else. We expect and prefer SANE owners. Anyone who expects something for nothing has no business living here.
That would apparently include your good self.
Why don’t you run yourself? It sounds like you would be a voice of sanity on your board. The other homeowners ought to love you.

I’ve lived in a very nice non-gated neighborhood for 27 years without a Communistic HOA. Everyone keeps their yards nice and there is no crime.
...Conservatives usually have the common sense to never move into a house ruled by an HOA. ...City codes for property maintence should be adequate.
You seem to have the purpose of an HOA stood entirely upside down.
HOAs exist to manage the common property, not the private homes. I have no problem with living outside self-contained, self-managed communities. County and township governments do a good job and I don’t fault them - or you.
But in my case there is no government or quasi-government body to handle our electric power, roads, water distribution, security, etc. So what would you have us do? We manage and finance ourselves, as we have no choice, and we also have no one else to blame for our fortunes or misfortunes but ourselves. We also have no one to pay our bills but ourselves.
I feel sorry that you appear to have had some sort of bad experience with your HOA in the past. Good luck to you in your present situation.
Info would have been in title which she probably decided not to read.
I do too and I must say that the board members are great and always have been.
Mine is a detached condo community so I own the house and the HOA is responsible for garbage pickup, snow removal, grass cutting, tree trimming and sprinkler systems.......
Years back I purchased a home in a new development of all brick, professionally landscaped, wide streets with sidewalks etc. All in all, an upscale community with a private lake, club house and swimming pool and of course a HOA with reasonable annual fees. The housing market dipped and the builder started building cheaper so called more affordable housing and investors started buying spec housing for rentals and the neighborhood went straight down. HOA fees were ignored and the amenities forced to close and then the new non paying residents accused the HOA of racism. Legal crap started and I bailed out after a seven year residency and took a big financial loss to escape.
John, you have FRmail :)
