For extra credit you need to see all four War of the Worlds.

When I posted, I was just thinking of the 2005 Steven Spielberg and the 1953 George Pal versions. I have seen the direct to video versions with C. Thomas Howell (awful) and the 1988 TV series, which I enjoyed.
On a similar note, I've actually seen 4 versions of the Invasion of the Body Snatchers. The original 1956 version with Kevin McCarthy, the 1978 remake with Donald Sutherland, the 1993 version with Gabrielle Anwar and the most recent 2007 film with Nicole Kidman.

About A Clockwork Orange.

Someone proposed a more realistic remake of ACO. This is because some of the realistic twists to it would be more fantastic than in the original.

To start off, Alex and his droogs are a British blend of white (UK and Russian), Hindu and Jamaican, though they speak the Russian-English Nadsat (subtitled), unlike in the original. They brawl with nominally Muslim-Pakistani and white gangs. Alex still adores Beethoven.

London is in ruins, after a war with the EU, so most young adults are dead, leaving the old, teenagers and children as most of the population. The older people can’t really control things, and are worried about the descent of the country into anarchy.

The Asylum version would have been better if the tripods had, oh, I dunno, THREE legs!

Nothing from Ray Harryhausen.

Breaking it down by decade:
1- 1920s
0- 1930s
0- 1940s
5- 1950s
2- 1960s
13 1970s (many late decade)
12 1980s
7- 1990s
7- 2000s
1- 2010s

Clearly I miss counted somewhere with films from the 1990s and 2000s, I’m not concerned enough to distinguish which needs 2 more films included.

Point is, he has heavily weighted his list. And yet in the past 4 years, only one has bee “must-see”.

A bit myopic of him. He should’ve called it, the top 50 SF films I’d recommend that I’ve seen and you’ve probably heard of (or not).

41. This is a lame list. I've seen many more good sci fi movies that are not listed. Serenity, Europa Report and Tremors come to mind.

I've seen 34. But any list that omits Pitch Black, or The Thing just doesn't cut it.

I’m at 35, but it seems heavy on last 40 years (especially 70’s and 80’s) and some aren’t really scifi. Where’s Godzilla, The Blob (original), The Head, Flash Gordon & Buck Rogers (I know serials), and the amazing classic Santa Claus Conquerors the Martians?

My biggest pet peeve is showing someone "hacking" or otherwise operating some piece of software and there is no feedback on the monitor (in otherwords, they type but what they are typing doesn't appear on the screen).

Oh, that actually happens to me all the time. Usually, it's because I didn't click inside the window before I start typing. It drives me nuts because some programs show a blinking cursor whether or not you click in the window.

...

That wasn't what you were talking about, was it?

What gets me is that some people think movies are absolutely accurate in their facts. Movies can't get the science right. Movies can't get real place names right. And, knowing that, people still expect the historical facts to be accurate?

I remember being stationed at Ft Knox, and watching Independence Day at the theatre on base. EVERYONE cheered when the White House got vaporized by the aliens.

I can just imagine how these kids in the military nowadays would react to the same movie.

That was the Clinton regime. I would think the cheers would be greater now, but with all the fags given rainbow passes to be in the Service and all the patriots leaving the military in droves(those who quit and all the general officers zer0 is firing) I am not sure it would get many cheers.

In general I agree with you. It took me quite awhile to appreciate British style sci fi which tends to be a bit (or a lot) screwball. But I do like some of it. I do really love those two movies though.

I have tried numerous times over the past 50 years to become a fan of "Dr Who" yet I just cannot get into it. The good Doctor and his realm, as they say, escapes me--

And not to further quote the Brits, but it is nowhere near... my cup of tea--

And don't even get me started... on their warm beer!
