Texans Allege ‘Fishy’ Adjustments By The Patriots
CBS Houston ^

Posted on 12/01/2013 8:42:32 PM PST by Perdogg

The Texans defense struggled against Tom Brady and the Patriots. But then again, who doesn’t?

After the Texans 34-31 loss, defensive end Antonio Smith made it clear he thought Brady had a little extra help in carving up their defense to the tune of 365 passing yards.

I find the people on this thread who are all worked up into a lather and fixated on this to be completely hilarious...they are the online equivalent of those people who call the sports radio stations with spittle coming out of their lips talking about how the powers that be in the league have the outcome decided in advance.

I would say, on the basis of this play which was a 20 yard run for a touchdown, that it might actually be the exact opposite...:)

There was a hole LITERALLY big enough to drive a pickup truck through, and while the Patriots run defense does suck, one might reasonably wonder how on earth that hole could have been so big.

When one watches the replay, there is an official standing in such a way (seen standing there before the camera moves) in such a way that Hightower is directly between him, the offensive lineman and the ball carrier.

One might reasonably think "My goodness, how DID there get a hole that big for the running back?"

Well, upon further review...

In this view below, one can easily see how that hole was so big, since the player whose likely responsibility it was to plug that hole was being firmly grasped with both hands in the direct line of sight of the official, who likely could not have failed to see the offensive lineman's hand obscuring the "5" on the back of Hightower's jersey before riding upwards to obscure part of his name so that it looked like he was named "Tower". On the traffic cone on the right side of this hole, the defensive lineman is being held by the shoulder pads. That is the way it is.

Now, my take on this is that the Pat's run defense sucks for a variety of reasons, but...my take on this was: Too bad, that is the way it goes sometimes. Hightower is a big boy and shouldn't have allowed that guy to hold him out of the hole. I put that on him...same for Jones on the other side.

But it does make people look foolish when they blather on about how the officials and the league have it in for any team playing against the Patriots.

If that is the kind of obvious help they are going to get (two cases of obvious holding on a big play in a close game both in the direct line of sight of the official) then I guess the Patriots might say "No thanks for your help!"

But hey, why let "facts" (as some posters call their spittle-lipped opinions) get in the way of a good conspiracy theory!

Hey, Toilet Paper Terrorist, I think Big Ol Freeper has more of a life than you do...I don’t recall seeing him whine and spit about some kind of idiotic league conspiracy theory, and his football opinions and discourse have been valued on FR for long before you showed up on the scene.

Give it a rest.

The Patriots weren’t found guilty of cheating? Are you going to accuse me of beating my wife because past cheaters are usually future cheaters? And if you do, will you do it to my face, tough guy?

"...Bad calls happen. Teams benefit from some, and get jobbed by others..."

Exactly. Anyone who watches football knows that is just the way it is. A bad team won't become a consistent winner because a few calls go their way a few times, and a good team won't become a bad one because they lose a few here and there.

Heh, big keyboard terrorist you are. The fact that you have yourself worked into a spittle-lipped rage over something as stupid as this tells me all I need to know about you.

Heh, tough guy indeed. I’ve been reading Big Ol Freeper’s enjoyable, well reasoned posts for years, and this is the first time I have had the misfortune to read yours, which I hate to be the one to break it to ya fella, don’t come across as “reasoned” or “enjoyable”. I suspect most of the people who follow the NFL threads on FR would say exactly the same as I just have, even those who I know detest the Patriots.

Take my advice and just stop.

Hardly. I think I am being rather reasonable. I haven’t called you a creep or any other name, for that matter. Seems to me you’re the one having difficulty engaging in civil discourse.

Granted, I did call another poster a loser earlier, and he rightly called me out on it. The bait was just too big and I took it.

In your case, I don’t think I have done any worse than to accurately compare your response to a spittle-lipped conspiracy theorist. I thought I was being rather generous.

The Patriots are still cheaters, and haven’t won squat since they were caught cheating.

18-1.

What did you post that was silly? You posted a long disjointed rant relying on Senator “Scottish Law” Specter’s utterly irrelevant assessment of whether some part of the process would stand up in court. Silliness on stilts. You’ve been around long enough that you should be bowled over laughing at that silliness.

False? As you later conceded, Goodel’s was the Commissioner, not Taglibue...which is an important point as to motive for the harsh punishment, as Goodel had just taken over and this was his first major discipline case. It seems likely that Goodel wasn’t about to have this turned around on him just because VP Football ops Ray Anderson had botched his clarification memo.

You also said that the Patriots were punished for filming a Super Bowl walk through, which they were not.

First, the punishment was designated months before the resolution of the walk through issue, and was not altered with that resolution.

Second, no one claims to have made such a tape; no one claims to have seen such a tape; no one claims to have seen such a tape being made; and no one can even identify a source for the rumor.

That’s a fair start.

Well no, aside from 5 Division Championships, and 2 Conference Championships since the videotaping bru-haha.

So they broke the NFL scoring record and had the lead in the Sb with a minute to go, how could they possibly do that after they no longer filmed signals?

Sounds like someone is jealous of the nice run the Pats have had over the past 13 years.

Sorry your team sucks.
