Actually, I've never met anyone who thought Return of the Jedi was a good film, either in concept or execution.

The original Star Wars (sickeningly retconned into A New Hope) was a hodge-podge of material pilfered from classic science fiction of the 50's and 60's and the whole "Samurais in Space" concept stolen from Akira Kurosawa's Hidden Fortress. It happened in the right time and place, and ILM was genuinely technically innovative.

The magnum opus of the set is clearly The Empire Strikes Back, a noir film with which Lucas had virtually nothing to do. [His nasty divorce, thank God, kept him from meaningfully participating.]

So we get a menacing build-up to set the stage for what was originally supposed to be the intro to a second trilogy, (of three, one of which was to be a prequel.) We're presented with an overwhelmingly powerful, evil, supernatural enemy with the military might of an entire galaxy at its back and it's done in in a few hours by ...

... fuzzballs ...

WTF?! How can you do anything but shake your head over the rank stupidity and ultimate disrespect this shows your audience?

I’m with you — though the fuzzball problem with RoTJ could have been fixed by creating the impression that there were 50 to 100 times as many Ewoks as Lucas’s filming made it seem and having the take mass casualties as they nonetheless slowly won the ground war on Endor. Literally the whole forest should have been moving with the little fuzzballs, and each blast from the walkers should have taken out dozens. Maybe Disney can reshoot the Battle of Endor sequence and fix the problem by inserting lots of CGI Ewoks and Ewok carnage. (^_^)
