So cool...

What is the really story on Mysterion? Is the one in our mist a replica or a reconstruction / restoration of the original? I did read somewhere that the show circuit took it's toll on the original ( the "lightened" frame especially ), so I wonder how much is new and how much of the original is what we see now....

Imho, car porn is as good as gun porn.

That's my story, and I'm stickin' to it.

Rat rods of more recent vintage are going into some interesting directions, it’s surprising how beautiful old bodywork can be when sanded down to bare metal and intentionally left that way, or deliberately patinated to create the appearance of age and wear, somewhere between Mad Max, Jules Verne and Steampunk.

You can find the details at the link below.

“For this story to make any sense, there’s something you must know about Ed Roth’s Mysterion: It’s long gone. ‘But ...’ you implore, ‘what about this yellow thing here?’ Well, this ‘thing’ is the fruit of a belated effort—and one hell of a story that begs to be told...”

And let us not forget custom car legends George Barris and Carl Casper.

“George Barris is known throughout the world as the ‘original’ King of Kustomizers. His creations are legendary in the world of television and motion pictures including the likes of the original television series Batmobile, Munster Koach, Beverly Hillbillies, KITT from Nightrider and more! His personal Star Collection includes the General Lee, Starsky & Hutch, Torino Green Hornet and Monkee Mobile. George hasn’t slowed down one bit and there’s a lot of new things happening at the shop as he and his team are busy creating new kustoms, television and movie cars. There’s also a new line of die cast toys and exclusive Barris bicycles making their way onto the scene. Check out our news and events sections as George himself will be attending a number of events this year.

Our shop is available for your next club car club gathering and we welcome personalized shop tours. Go to our contact us page and email or call us for more information. We hope you enjoy the new site!”

I did a search on Model Car Science and could not believe I found a cover from one I never read has the very model I have to this day. I bought it from Sears and it's about 18" long. Got it for Christmas in 1965. The Sears version was a slightly blue gray and the whitewalls were actually dashed lines.

If you care, the complete issues can be viewed here by year and issue. This thread caused me to look this stuff up. Amazing that it’s out there!

Wow, you can actually read the entire contents of every magazine? That’s incredible. I will definitely look through some of them.

I noticed on one of the covers that there was a mention of slot cars. There was a place here in NYC that I used to go to during the 60s and 70s to race my car around on various tracks they had. It was called Buzzarama. I couldn’t believe it when I found out a year or so ago that the place is still there. Only it’s a good deal smaller than it was back then. They used to have around 7 or 8 different types of tracks you could rent time on, including an HO scale. Now I think they just have one or two. I read that the owner says he doesn’t make much money doing it anymore, but wants to keep it going just to keep the hobby alive. To introduce today’s kids to it.

That is REALLY cool.

In Seattle there was a place called Bob Hale’s Hobby Shop. It was almost exactly where the main Westlake Mall Monorail station is and it was on the second floor. this was before Westlake park and all. The government took him out to create the mall. He had a huge 8 lane 1/24th scale track and a large HO four lane track. That was around 1969, the last time I went there when in Jr High.

I just remembered that we had a slot racing club at my Jr High and built our own four lane track with the help of the shop teacher.

I still have a LARGE Aurora HO set and about 20 cars. I plan to create a large permanent layout when we get more buildings erected in our “compound”. I’ll have to take sandpaper to the rails on every single track piece though, after all this storage.

Those are probably the ones I got off some website where people posted pics from a particular car show.
